About the Works
Claude Monet "Water Lilies"
Claude Monet (1840-1926), an impressionist master who pursued changes in light and atmosphere throughout his life. The series "Water Lilies", based on the garden he created in Giverny, his final residence, is both a culmination of Monet's work and has had a significant influence on painting since the 20th century.
This work is one of the second series (published in 1909), which gained a large response for its expression focused solely on the water surface where water lilies float. By capturing the various changes in light on the water surface, it expresses the color of the sky, the movement of the clouds, the existence of the surrounding trees, the world beneath the water surface, and even hints at the existence of the world outside the frame.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir "Anemone"
Pierre-Auguste Renoir "Anemone" circa 1883-1890, Pola Museum of Art
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919), who established his unique style with soft touches and bright colors and, together with Monet, led the Impressionist movement.
Anemone is one of the flowers that Renoir particularly liked to paint, along with roses and dahlias. The flower shape, which creates a rounded form with various colors and what appears to be calyx parts that curl like petals, may have been favored by the painter. The blue background tightens the entire screen, and together with the cobalt blue pattern of the flower vase, it further enhances the brilliance of the flowers colored in red and pale purple.
