A 6-Part Interactive Concert Series at Japan's Masterpiece Residence, 'Kameki Tsuchiura Residence'

PO Real Estate Inc. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Yasuhiro Fukuda) will hold a 6-part interactive appreciation concert series, 'Music Heard by Architects — Sounds that Resonated in the Mind of Architect Kameki Tsuchiura,' as a related event at the Kameki Tsuchiura Residence. Architect Kameki Tsuchiura studied under Frank Lloyd Wright in the United States, and his own residence, completed upon his return in 1935, is known as a masterpiece representing Japanese residential architecture. Furthermore, Kameki Tsuchiura was a person who loved and continuously listened to a wide range of genres, from Bach to 20th-century music. Based on materials investigating approximately 150 reel-to-reel tapes that Kameki Tsuchiura recorded primarily from classical radio programs, our company will host a concert featuring the music Kameki Tsuchiura listened to, welcoming the renowned musicologist Dr. Keiichi Kubota as the general supervisor, alongside performers active in various fields.

This series, using the Western music that architect Kameki Tsuchiura (1897–1996) enjoyed throughout his life as a clue, is composed of six architectural perspectives common to both music and architecture: 'Structure,' 'Relaxation,' 'Interior,' 'Color,' 'Symmetry,' and 'Material.' Starting from the question, 'What kind of music did the architect listen to, and with what kind of sensibility?', we will perform (actualize) musical works and catch a glimpse of the thoughts behind them through dialogue. Through the attempt to rearrange music around architectural keywords, we hope this will become a place where many people can go beyond overviews of music history and introductions to masterpieces, to think while listening to music and physically experience the architectural space through music.
