Atsuto Uchida

Date of Birth: March 27, 1988

Place of Birth: Shizuoka Prefecture

In 2006, he joined Kashima Antlers from Shizuoka Shimizu Higashi High School. He won the club's first opening-day starting position as a high school graduate and contributed to the first-ever J-League three-peat as an established regular. In 2008, at the young age of 19, he was called up to the Japanese national team. In 2010, he made a permanent transfer to the German powerhouse Schalke 04. He was active on the world soccer stage, including being the first Japanese player to reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. In 2018, he returned to his former club, Kashima Antlers. In August 2020, he retired from professional play, much to the regret of fans.

He currently serves as a JFA 'Role Model Coach' and a J.League Special Executive Director, contributing to Japanese soccer in a different capacity than as a player. He participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups.
