Connecting Food and Agriculture with Technology: The "Earth Saver Project" Led by Children Aims for the "2027 International Horticultural Exhibition"
Platio Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo / CEO: Takayoshi Serizawa), a social impact startup aiming to democratize agriculture and implement democratic "agri-food infrastructure," is launching a new food and agriculture education program in collaboration with CLASS EARTH Inc. (Chuo-ku, Tokyo), and the "Earth Saver Project" focused on nature education.
This project is a momentum-building initiative leading up to the "2027 International Horticultural Exhibition (GREEN×EXPO 2027)" to be held in Yokohama.
■ Kick-off Workshop to Be Held
The first workshop will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Children will create their own planters using bamboo felled from abandoned bamboo forests in the Kanto region and sow seeds of "endangered native vegetables™," which have supported the regional ecosystem. This is a long-term, process-oriented learning program aiming to sow "seeds of the next generation" from the planted vegetables at the opening of the 2027 International Horticultural Exhibition.
1. Fostering "Sensitivity to Life" Through Technology
Using Platio's digital cultivation guide "grow," the app guides users on plant conditions, such as "needs water" or "time to thin," based on data measured by soil sensors. This experience of noticing small changes in plants through data cultivates children's compassion for life.
2. The Meaning of Growing "Endangered Native Vegetables™"
We cultivate "native varieties" that have coexisted with the regional environment, insects, and birds, rather than uniform commercial vegetables. Visualizing how one's own pot is connected to the local nature through the grow app, we implement the concept of "commons" that satoyama once possessed into modern urban life.
3. Creating "Next-Generation Leaders" Who Can Change the Future
This program goes beyond simple gardening knowledge to foster leaders who can logically grasp the impact of their actions on the global environment while adeptly using technology.
■ Invitation to Media and Co-creation Partner Information Session
Following the workshop, we will hold a partnership information session for companies and organizations that resonate with the project's philosophy. This session will present ways to achieve nature positivity and co-creation leading up to the 2027 International Horticultural Exhibition.
We will announce our future outlook, discussing how the latest technology and education are being fused to create impact towards 2027.
Furthermore, on the day, you will be able to observe and film the workshop in progress, in addition to attending the information session.
