PingCAP Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Eric Han; hereinafter PingCAP) has announced the public preview of "TiDB Cloud Premium," a new plan for enterprises that enhances stability and controllability as a new lineup of "TiDB Cloud," an AI-ready next-generation NewSQL database.

Cloud-native databases have dramatically simplified the construction and operation of transaction systems. Managed services, automatic failover, and scalable storage are now industry standards. However, with the advent of AI agents, workloads have become more complex, and new challenges have emerged:

- Computing and storage scaling are not completely independent.
- Performance prediction becomes difficult under mixed workloads.
- Manual operational adjustments are still required for scaling and failover.

TiDB Cloud Premium is designed to directly address these challenges while maintaining the convenience of a fully managed database.

What is "TiDB X," the AI-ready next-generation architecture?

TiDB Cloud Premium adopts "TiDB X," the latest AI-ready cloud-native architecture with object storage as its backbone. TiDB X achieves up to 10 times faster scaling by separating lightweight OLTP computation processing from heavy background tasks such as compaction and DDL execution. Furthermore, it maintains stable low latency even in high-write environments and offers a pay-as-you-go model based on flexible provisioning.

The TiDB X architecture provides cost predictability and controllability close to provisioning, realizing flexible pay-as-you-go billing that fluctuates according to workloads. By visualizing consumption based on Request Units (RU) and isolating workloads, it suppresses variations in resource utilization and enables efficient operation within the intended scope. This achieves both stable performance and cost optimization.

New plan that combines the best features of existing TiDB Cloud plans

TiDB Cloud Premium is a new enterprise-grade option that bridges the gap between "Essential," which offers serverless simplicity, and "Dedicated," which provides robust exclusivity.

Evolution from Essential:

The Essential plan provides a serverless experience with simplicity and elasticity using shared resources. The Premium plan achieves advanced resource isolation (isolation) at the compute, storage, and network layers. It eliminates the impact of shared resources, guaranteeing predictable and stable performance even for mission-critical workloads. At the same time, it maintains an elastic on-demand scaling model. Compute performance can be scaled independently without operational burden.

Evolution from Dedicated:

The Dedicated plan, being fully exclusive, offers strong isolation and fixed capacity but requires prior provisioning to meet peak demand. The Premium plan eliminates the stagnation of costs associated with securing spare resources (headroom) and achieves dramatic improvements in cost efficiency. With a pay-as-you-go billing system based on actual resource consumption, it supports true cost optimization by eliminating waste.
