TYL Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Shohei Kaneko; hereinafter 'TYL') has released a research report on the 'reasons pet groomers decide to change jobs.' The report is based on the classification and analysis of free-text interview records from job seekers who consulted with and registered for 'Trimmer Agent,' a recruitment agency for groomers operated by TYL, in 2025, using natural language processing technology.

Survey Background In recent years, while grooming has gained popularity as a profession that allows people to turn their 'passion' into a career, the significant physical and mental burdens and challenges regarding work styles have become apparent in the field. In fact, 'Trimmer Agent,' a recruitment agency specializing in groomers, receives many consultations regarding unique workplace struggles, such as 'I want to finish the grooming more beautifully, but I don't have enough time' and 'I am worried about whether I can continue this long-term due to the physical strain.' In particular, there has been an increasing trend in job change consultations driven by issues related to work styles, such as the burden of 'speed grooming' that prioritizes turnover rates, and the ambiguity of roles caused by dual responsibilities, such as performing nursing duties at veterinary clinics. Given this situation, this survey analyzed the reasons why groomers decided to change jobs based on consultation data received by 'Trimmer Agent' in 2025.

Survey Results ・The #1 reason for changing jobs is 'Skill Upgrading, Technical Improvement, and Work Content' at 38.6%. Many express frustration with the gap between their ideal grooming and the reality of the workplace. ・'Work Environment, Compensation, and Health' (28.4%) ranked 2nd, revealing a reality where professionals seek proper evaluation and a better working environment. ・3rd place was 'Interpersonal Relationships, Workplace Environment, and Organizational Structure,' 4th was 'Career Change from Other Industries/Returning to the Industry,' and 5th was 'Life Events,' showing that reasons related to work-life balance and life planning are also high on the list.

Topic 1 ・The #1 reason for changing jobs is 'Skill Upgrading, Technical Improvement, and Work Content' at 38.6%. Many express frustration with the gap between their ideal grooming and the reality of the workplace. The most common reason was the gap between the groomer's ideals and actual work, as well as a desire for technical improvement. Challenges cited include being unable to engage carefully with each animal in a work environment that prioritizes turnover, and a lack of opportunities to acquire skills due to a division-of-labor system. There is a strong desire to pursue 'cuts that bring out the charm of each pet' rather than just performing a task, leading to an increase in job changes to environments where they can better demonstrate their expertise.

Topic 2 ・'Work Environment, Compensation, and Health' (28.4%) ranked 2nd, revealing a reality where professionals seek proper evaluation and a better working environment. The second most common reason was dissatisfaction with salary and working conditions. Many comments included, 'My salary doesn't reflect my sales or the number of clients who request me' and 'Long working hours and unpaid overtime have become the norm.' Experienced professionals, in particular, are moving toward jobs that offer commission-based systems where their skills are fairly evaluated, or workplaces with better-established labor environments.

Topic 3 ・3rd place was 'Interpersonal Relationships, Workplace Environment, and Organizational Structure,' 4th was 'Career Change from Other Industries/Returning to the Industry,' and 5th was 'Life Events,' showing that reasons related to work-life balance and life planning are also high on the list. 'Interpersonal Relationships, Workplace Environment, and Organizational Structure' (14.8%) was the next most common reason after Topics 1 and 2. Meanwhile, 10.2% of respondents cited 'Career Change from Other Industries/Returning to the Industry,' and 8.0% cited 'Life Events' such as marriage, childbirth, or relocation. A certain number of 'returning career' individuals who want to work as groomers again were also observed. It appears that even those who left for various reasons are returning in search of fulfillment and job satisfaction, exploring ways to work that fit their current lifestyles.

Survey Overview ・Survey Participants: 67 individuals who consulted with and registered for 'Trimmer Agent' ・Target Data: 64 interview records (Total text volume: approx. 110,000 characters) ・Analysis Method: Classification and analysis of free-text data using AI-based natural language processing technology ・Target Period: January 2025 – December 2025
