Launched in 2025 as a sister project to 'Peace Wanko Japan,' which supports protected dogs from 11 facilities nationwide, 'Peace Nyanko' is working to reduce the euthanasia of cats. To help protected cats find new families, they are promoting adoption centered on medical support in cooperation with partner organizations. We will now hold our second charity event as Peace Nyanko at the Arita Ceramic Fair (Arita Town, Saga Prefecture).
Sparked by this event last year, Peace Nyanko was able to launch the 'Saga Nyan Project,'* aimed at protecting the lives of cats in Saga.
At the event venue, we will sell cat-themed crafts made in collaboration with unique Takeo and Arita ware studios, as well as Peace Nyanko original charity goods. We will also introduce Peace Nyanko's activities and accept donations to support them. Proceeds from the charity event will be used to support protected cat activities, such as spay/neuter surgeries conducted in cooperation with the Small Animal Division of the Saga Veterinary Medical Association and the operation of mobile surgery vehicles.
*Saga Nyan Project: An activity to protect the lives of cats in collaboration with protected cat organizations operating in Saga Prefecture and the Small Animal Division of the Veterinary Medical Association.
■ The Collaboration Between Traditional Crafts and Peace Nyanko Comes to the Arita Ceramic Fair!
At the "Traditional Crafts Protect Cats: Peace Nyanko Charity Event," we will explore the new possibilities of "Cats x Traditional Crafts" while introducing original products using traditional crafts from Saga Prefecture.
"Cats" and "Traditional Crafts"—both are worlds supported by enthusiastic fans, but this collaboration may create unprecedented forms of support and new entry points for learning about social issues.
It is an event that both cat lovers and craft lovers will surely enjoy. We have prepared special one-of-a-kind items in collaboration with unique Takeo and Arita ware studios. Please find your favorite.
Gingayu - Gyokuhou Kiln / Takeo Ware
Various metals contained within the glaze called "Gingatsumugi" crystallize in a high-heat kiln, creating works that look like a "galaxy shining in the celestial bodies." It was created after a long journey by the late ceramic artist Tetsuaki Nakao. The study of "clay," the study of "kilns," and the study of "glazes." The galaxy world finally born after a long period. "Gingayu (Galaxy Glaze)" is imbued with the artist's desire for "love" and "freedom," having studied philosophy and social sciences even more than pottery.
At Gingayu-Gyokuhou Kiln, there is a black cat named Nelson who acts as the "Cat Director," guiding people through the studio and introducing pottery making. The studio, lined with cat works, is full of pieces overflowing with beautiful glazes and love for cats, sure to make any cat lover fall in love at first sight!
Kikaku Seitou / Arita Ware
Ceramic artist Shoji Yamaguchi's exotic, Western-inspired vessels and pottery with a unique style are captivating. Kikaku Seitou engages in manufacturing with wishes for people's happiness, envisioning scenes of a rich life where people's bodies are filled with health and their minds are healed.
In Mr. Yamaguchi's studio, who loves animals in general, paintings and sculptures featuring various animals, including cats, are exhibited. The characteristics and loveliness of each animal are beautifully expressed, and the different expressions of each piece are truly overflowing with a "bad but cute (waru-kawaii)" charm.

The Arita Ceramic Fair, now in its 122nd year, is Japan's oldest ceramic fair, attracting over 1.1 million total visitors from all over the country.
During the fair from April 29 to May 5, shops line the entire town, and the usually quiet pottery village becomes extremely lively during this time. The turnout is about 1.2 million people from all over the country, centered around Kyushu. The cheapness and abundance of porcelain products, and the unique vibrancy, attract many people to Arita every year.
