PARCO Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) will begin distributing the free paper "GOMES by PARCO" at 15 PARCO stores nationwide starting Friday, July 17, 2026.

"GOMES" was a free paper distributed at each fashion building PARCO store from 1989 to 1996, fully embodying PARCO's subculture spirit, and garnered enthusiastic popularity in some circles.

Now, after 30 years, it will be newly published as "GOMES by PARCO." In addition to the return of former popular serial contributors, emerging creators will also be featured. It will be distributed at the storefronts of PARCO stores as a laid-back free paper that is of no use for PARCO's advertising.

From Friday, July 17 to Sunday, July 19, PARCO staff will distribute it directly at each store. PARCO members will receive a sticker of "Litora-chan," a manga by Kotobuki Shiriagari, who has been with GOMES since its early days!

What is "GOMES"?

"GOMES" is a free paper published by PARCO Co., Ltd. from 1989 to 1996, with a total of 80 issues published, and distributed at PARCO stores nationwide. Up to 100,000 copies were distributed per issue, and it was well-received.

It gained enthusiastic popularity with serializations by popular creators such as Katuki Tanaka x Seiichi Amakusa's "Bakadoriru," manga artist Kyoko Okazaki and Kotobuki Shiriagari, and illustrator Yutanpo Shirane, as well as reader participation corners.

Amidst the various cultural initiatives launched by PARCO, such as theaters, galleries, and live houses, "GOMES" was born as "an owned media expressing PARCO's philosophy and actions."

Parody, gags, B-class, and "heta-uma" (skillfully unskilled) culture, such as "Bikkuri House," "Nihon Parody Ten," and the derived "Gokyo-kun Calendar," are a facet of PARCO's corporate spirit, representing "subculture," which is a side stream of mainstream culture.

"GOMES" was a publication that truly expressed that deep essence.

Reason for the revival of "GOMES" as "GOMES by PARCO"

While avant-garde and highly sensitive advertising production and artistic expression continue to be PARCO's core, the space for expressing the subculture spirit that PARCO once valued had been absent for some time.

2026 will coincidentally mark the 30th anniversary of "GOMES"'s conclusion. A miracle revival has been realized by volunteers, including former GOMES editors, who stood up to bring back the subculture spirit!

In today's Reiwa era, where smartphones and videos are commonplace, we are committed to distributing it on paper, just like the original "GOMES." We also insisted on making it obtainable only by visiting PARCO.

"GOMES by PARCO" Writer Lineup

In addition to the former "GOMES" serial contributors, many new generation creators who are earnestly pursuing interesting and absurd things will appear. They will liven up the Reiwa-era "GOMES by PARCO" in various forms, including text, columns, manga, and illustrations. The popular reader submission corner will also make a comeback!

Serial contributors (in no particular order, titles omitted): Katuki Tanaka (Manga artist), Kotobuki Shiriagari (Manga artist), Nanako Sanjyo (Manga artist/Columnist), Seiichi Amakusa (Manga artist/Illustrator), Kyu Kanai (Model/Writer), Marina Fujiwara (Writer/Useless Inventor, etc.), Hakkaku Bunkakaikan (Media), Cyber Okasan (Cyber Artist), Yutanpo Shirane (Illustrator/Artist), Saida Kasai (Musician/Rapper), Makio Harahira (Artist), Shin Yoshimaru (Artist), Teruki Hanazono (Manga artist), Bokunou (Artist), Shohei Ochiai (Painter), and others.

Message from Katuki Tanaka (serialized "Bakadoriru" with Seiichi Amakusa in "GOMES")

Congratulations on the revival of GOMES. At the time, both Seiichi and I had debuted as manga artists, but works that we found genuinely interesting were not easily accepted in the existing manga market. Nowadays, with the internet and social media, we might be able to find sympathetic people or places. But back then, if it wasn't published in a magazine, it was as if it didn't exist, and the places that accepted our humor were truly limited. It was then that "GOMES" had an atmosphere that welcomed "humor that hasn't yet been named." I remember collaborating with Seiichi, laughing heartily. Back then, magazines, TV, and advertisements were the center of culture. But "GOMES" was a little different from all of them; it was too free to be a magazine, too dense to be a free paper, and too useless to be an advertisement. I would be happy if the revived GOMES becomes a place that accepts the "unidentifiable but interesting" humor of a new generation. (Katuki Tanaka, Manga artist)
