Three Days to Experience Diverse Values and Lifestyles Through Culture – Shibuya PARCO Hosts 'PRIDE 2026'

Shibuya PARCO will hold 'PRIDE 2026' from June 19 (Fri) to 21 (Sun), 2026, a project themed around diversity including diverse sexualities, lifestyles, and cultural backgrounds. It offers opportunities to encounter various values and expressions through a wide range of culture including art, fashion, music, film, literature, and podcasts.

At the 10F event space 'PBOX STND', on Saturday, June 20, there will be a screening of the recorded video of the stage art work 'S/N' by 'DUMB TYPE', along with a talk event featuring Toru Yamanaka, the music director of the work, and performer Boubou de la Madelène. In conjunction with the screening, the day before, on the 9F 'SUPER DOMMUNE', a special program unraveling the history of DUMB TYPE's activities will be streamed, with guest Aoi Yamada.

On Friday, June 19, Paris-based independent brand 'Carne Bollente' will hold its first-ever Pride event under the theme 'Sounds Queer, I’m in'. On Sunday, June 21, 'Normal Screen', which screens works about the experiences and narratives of sexual minorities, will show three short films, including a Japan premiere. A talk event after viewing is also planned.

During the period, at the 4F event space, bookstores and artists including the Higashi-Nakano bookstore and alternative space 'platform3〈loneliness books × (TT)press〉' will gather to run a kiosk featuring books, zines, and goods related to queer, gender, and feminism. On Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21, podcast public recordings and talk events will also be held in the same space. On the first day, 'Kiku CINRA' will feature queer literary critic Fumi Mizukami and Fuwei, who participated in Netflix reality series 'The Boyfriend' Season 2 and researches queer anthropology, for a talk on queer and books. On the second day, popular podcasts 'Souiu Gei Nara Mou Ichido Aitai!' and 'Shippai kara Manabu Gei to Okoge no News T' will appear, along with a cross-talk session between the two groups.

Additionally, featuring 'TOGA' on the 2F, they will co-create the web content 'PARCO ISSUE'. Starting from gender minorities, they will examine queer culture, which spreads across a wide range of genres including music, film, art, and literature, from both fashion and cultural perspectives. Along with interviews with four guests of different genders, generations, and cultural backgrounds, including Yasuko Furuta, fashion portraits of the guests wearing the new 'TOGA' collection, shot by four photographers, will also be released.

At the B1F 'Campy!bar', a consultation room where you can talk about love and work worries will open, providing a fun evening. At Cinequinto, the classic youth film 'GO' will have a limited revival screening.

Through these three days, Shibuya PARCO aims to create opportunities for diverse expressions and perspectives to intersect, fostering new encounters through culture and a place where people and expressions meet.

Formed in 1984, 'DUMB TYPE' involves artists from diverse fields such as visual art, video, computer programming, dance, music, and design on a project-by-project basis. Their work 'S/N', first performed in 1994, stands for 'Signal/Noise'. It is a monumental work that directly confronts discrimination based on race, nationality, and all minorities, with themes including gender, AIDS, and sexuality. Their activities, which involved surrounding communities, resonate deeply in the present as urgent questions even after the death of Teiji Furuhashi, who came out about his identity on stage. Their expression, which crosses existing artistic genres through flat collaborative production without a specific director, transcends existing frameworks and gives us a new perspective on 'being true to oneself'.

In the talk show after the screening, Toru Yamanaka, the music director of the work, and performer Boubou de la Madelène will take the stage. They will discuss coexistence with others and the possibilities of artistic expression from the perspective of about 30 years after the premiere of 'S/N'.

■ 10F PBOX STND: 'Sounds Queer, I’m in' by Carne Bollente

Paris-based 'Carne Bollente' will hold its first-ever PRIDE event. Under the theme 'Sounds Queer, I’m in', it creates a night where the queer community can gather, freely enjoy themselves, and connect. Limited edition march T-shirts and caps will be sold at the venue, and music by three DJs and a drink bar will color the space. Born from the simple wish to 'participate in Pride in your own way without having to express everything in rainbow colors', it is imbued with the desire to be a place where everyone can express their love and support.
