The 'Children's Third Place Creation Project' is being promoted nationwide by The Nippon Foundation. This book is an ongoing practical report compiled by the author, who is involved in its establishment and operation in Nara City, Nara Prefecture, based on initiatives since 2023. Drawing on a quarter-century of experience in building educational communities, the book introduces, through concrete examples, how to structure activities such as 'play,' 'daily life,' and 'learning' to create a safe space for children. In recent years, the environment surrounding children has changed significantly, including a declining population, less outdoor play, prolonged contact with digital devices, and disparities in experience and education. In such a society, how can we create a place where children can spend time with peace of mind and grow while interacting with others? Through episodes involving actual children and staff, this book records the trial and error of the field, constantly asking, 'What is best for the child?' The practice of creating a place where people can learn and grow together while respecting children's rights is also a learning opportunity for adults and students involved with children. We hope this book will serve as a hint for creating children's spaces spreading across various regions and lead to initiatives that support children's rich 'childhood.'
