About the Awardee Name: Naoyuki Asao Affiliation: Global Company, International Railway Projects Department, Project Division 2 Position: Division Manager

For nearly 15 years, Mr. Asao has been engaged in pre-feasibility studies (Pre-FS), feasibility studies (FS), detailed design, and construction supervision for railway projects in Southeast and South Asia. Leveraging knowledge and expertise gained from domestic railway civil engineering projects, he has made substantial contributions to international infrastructure development. Notably, in the Yangon-Mandalay Railway Improvement Project in Myanmar, he led end-to-end responsibilities—from surveying to design and construction supervision—for all bridges, culverts, and related structures across the approximately 620-kilometer section. Through extensive consultations with Myanmar’s civil engineering and earthquake societies and universities, he promoted the proposal and implementation of seismic design methodologies based on seismic hazard maps. The hundreds of newly constructed bridges he designed and supervised sustained no damage during the 2025 Central Myanmar earthquake, earning high recognition. In addition to his contributions to urban and long-distance railway infrastructure across Asia, Mr. Asao has actively published papers and presented at numerous international conferences, while also engaging in technical guidance and human resource development, thereby enhancing the international visibility of Japanese civil engineering technologies and supporting sustainable infrastructure development.
