Survey Background and Overview

Amidst rising electricity prices, disputes over household electricity usage are not uncommon.

Differences in everyday actions, such as "air conditioner settings" or "lights left on," can lead to friction with cohabitants.

This survey investigated the reality of communication surrounding electricity bills among those who live with others.

Survey Summary

- 47.5%, approximately half, have "experienced" disputes or unease over electricity usage.

- The top situations prone to disputes are "lights/TV left on" at 77.9%, followed by "air conditioner settings" at 52.6%.

- "No particular need to discuss" was the most common response at 42%, indicating many households do not engage in discussions.

- As a solution, "taking the initiative to save electricity myself" was the most frequent at 29.5%, while switching electricity providers accounted for only 10.5%.

Key Data from the Electricity Bill Trouble Survey

Key Data 1: 1 in 2 People Experience Electricity Troubles with Cohabitants

When asked if they had experienced disputes or unease over electricity usage, 47.5% (15.5% "often" + 32% "sometimes") had experienced some form of trouble.

While 52.5% answered "never," this means approximately 1 in 2 households living with others experience friction over electricity usage.

Key Data 2: "Lights Left On" Tops Disputes at About 80%

When asked about specific situations (multiple answers allowed) among 95 people who had experienced disputes, "lights/TV left on" was overwhelmingly the top answer at 77.9%.

This was followed by "air conditioner settings" at 52.6% and "leaving the room lights on when going out/falling asleep" at 49.5%. The causes of disputes were concentrated in specific daily actions.

Key Data 3: "Taking the Initiative" is the Main Solution, Discussions are Minority

When asked about implemented solutions (multiple answers allowed), "taking the initiative to save electricity myself" was the most common at 29.5%.

Only 18.5% "set electricity-saving rules with cohabitants," and 10.5% "switched electricity providers." This shows that even when people feel a problem, they tend to act themselves rather than approach others.
