Otemon Gakuin University Introduces 'Gemini' AI to 9,500 Students with New Usage Guidelines

Otemon Gakuin University in Ibaraki, Osaka, announced that starting April 2026, it has provided access to generative AI tools 'Gemini' and 'Notebook LM' for all approximately 9,500 students. To ensure data protection and security, the university utilizes managed student accounts. Simultaneously, the university established the 'Generative AI Usage Guidelines for Students,' which classifies AI usage in courses into three levels: Prohibited, Conditional Permission, and Active Use. Rather than viewing AI as an answering machine, the university positions it as a 'partner to expand thinking' (brainstorming partner). The initiative aims to foster independent critical thinking and judgment skills while minimizing risks like information leakage or loss of learning opportunities.
