Otemon Gakuin University (Location: Ibaraki, Osaka; President: Masahiro Shindo) has launched "OIDAI+", a generative AI-powered advisor function for students within its official university app, the "OIDAI App," on April 1, 2026.
This function provides individually optimized advice for student life consultations regarding course registration, study abroad, and job hunting, based on a data infrastructure that integrates the university's academic data and internal information. This initiative, implementing a multi-agent AI advisor in a university's proprietary app, is a first in Japan (*1).
【Article Points】
〇 AI advisor "OIDAI+" added to the official university app "OIDAI App"
〇 Provides individually optimized advice tailored to each student based on integrated university data such as course registration, grades, and job-hunting information
〇 A multi-agent structure with nine specialized AIs for academic affairs, job hunting, study abroad, etc., work together to support student life
In recent years, with the spread of generative AI, initiatives to utilize it for academic support are also progressing in the education field. However, general generative AI services are primarily structured to provide answers based on public information on the internet, making it difficult to offer specific advice based on an individual student's academic status or the university's unique systems.
Our university has been developing a data infrastructure that integrates data previously dispersed throughout the campus, such as students' course information, grades, learning logs, and job-hunting information. While general generative AI services mainly provide answers based on public internet information, this function can refer to each student's data, and in some cases, inquire about their interests and aspirations to provide personalized advice on the university's curriculum, extracurricular courses, study abroad programs, and various support systems for job hunting.
Furthermore, "OIDAI+" is not only designed to answer questions from students but also has a mechanism for the AI to proactively reach out to students according to the timing of course registration and their situation. It aims to provide "companion-style" support that encourages student action by capturing the right moments for selecting courses, considering studying abroad, and starting job-hunting activities during their four years of university life.
This function also adopts a "multi-agent structure" where multiple specialized AI agents collaborate to generate answers. By having nine specialized AI agents for various fields related to student life work together, it can handle a wide range of consultations about student life.
"OIDAI+" is fundamentally designed with a conversational approach that encourages student awareness and proactive behavior. Instead of aiming for a complete solution within the AI interaction, it also includes a mechanism to appropriately connect students to human support from faculty and staff when specialized consultation is necessary. With the release of this function, our university aims to create a new form of student support that supports student learning and growth by effectively combining generative AI and human support.
