French AI Monitoring System "ORIKIO" Strengthens Collaboration with Japanese Nursing and Medical Fields with Next-Generation Sound Detection Technology

ORIKIO, a healthcare technology company from France, has been engaged in continuous dialogue with medical and nursing care facilities, municipalities, research institutions, and innovation partners in Japan since October 2025, leading to the start of on-site demonstrations this month. ORIKIO develops and deploys monitoring solutions that utilize AI-based acoustic analysis technology. By identifying "sounds," the AI detects and notifies of events related to user abnormalities, such as falls, respiratory issues, and changes in physical condition, ensuring safe and secure monitoring with maximum consideration for privacy. Currently, this technology has been implemented in over 5,000 rooms in facilities and residential environments across France and six other European countries, and is being used in a wide range of settings including nursing homes, specialized care facilities, and in-home care environments. The technology was born from the challenge in care settings where elderly individuals are often "unable to call for help." In nursing facilities and home environments, it is not uncommon for elderly people who are alone to be unable to call for help. Physical decline, cognitive impairment, or loss of consciousness can make it difficult for them to seek assistance using a nurse call button or their voice. ORIKIO's answer to this challenge is "sound." By combining AI and acoustic analysis technology, ORIKIO can detect over 150 types of abnormal signals in real-time, including the sound of a fall, abnormal breathing, vomiting, screams, and unusual sounds during sleep. ORIKIO is not a technology designed to replace care staff, but rather as an "AI that supports care," aimed at reducing the burden on staff and enabling rapid response. ORIKIO is seriously beginning its collaboration with Japanese nursing and medical sites. The company views Japan not merely as a market, but emphasizes building long-term relationships while deeply understanding the realities and challenges of the medical and nursing care fields. It has engaged in discussions with medical and care professionals on themes specific to Japan, such as its unique aging challenges, shortage of care personnel, nighttime monitoring, and the increasing burden of care. As part of its activities in Japan, ORIKIO has participated in major exhibitions and innovation events, including Medical Japan Tokyo 2025, Care Show Japan 2026, and Sushi Tech Tokyo 2026. Through these opportunities, it has been building a network with medical institutions, nursing facilities, municipalities, startups, and related organizations, and began on-site demonstrations in May. Furthermore, in early April 2026, ORIKIO visited Japan as part of the French presidential delegation. During the visit, CEO Olivier Muguet exchanged views with stakeholders in Japan's medical, nursing, and innovation sectors, deepening discussions on long-term cooperation possibilities between France and Japan. Additional visits and initiatives for Proof of Concept (PoC) trials in Japan are planned for the coming months. In March 2026, ORIKIO's contribution to technological innovation in the well-being sector was recognized when it was selected for the final presentation and won the GOLD award at the 4th Wellbeing Award, hosted by The Asahi Shimbun Company. The company has also completed registration for welfare equipment in Japan, obtained a TAIS code (02391-000001), and a Care Technology mark, marking important steps toward a full-scale deployment in Japanese care settings. Discussions for PoCs and pilot introductions with nursing facilities in Japan are currently underway. In addition to facility care, ORIKIO is also expanding into the home care domain, driven by the growing need to support elderly individuals who continue to live at home. ORIKIO is actively building relationships not just in urban areas like Tokyo, but also in rural regions. In areas where population decline and a shortage of care staff are becoming more severe, the burden on medical and nursing sites is increasing, and expectations for technology-based support are growing.
