What is the 'Moving Ukiyo-e Exhibition'?

The 'Moving Ukiyo-e Exhibition' is an experiential digital art museum where you can immerse yourself in the world of Ukiyo-e in a three-dimensional video space. Based on more than 300 works by world-renowned Ukiyo-e artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Utagawa Hiroshige, Kitagawa Utamaro, Toshusai Sharaku, and Utagawa Kunisada, it creates graphical digital art pieces using 3DCG animation and projection mapping that can be enjoyed by everyone from adults to children. In addition to digital displays, famous Ukiyo-e printed in the Edo period and reprinted editions will also be exhibited, providing commentary on the history of Ukiyo-e, Edo culture, and the Ukiyo-e artists themselves.

This exhibition, which has previously been held in Nagoya, Milan (Italy), Kagoshima, Tokyo, Fukuoka, Taipei (Taiwan), and Kaohsiung (Taiwan), attracting numerous visitors, also won the Excellence Award in the Project Category of the 'CJPF Award 2025' organized by the Cool Japan Public-Private Partnership Platform Secretariat (Intellectual Property Strategy Promotion Secretariat, Cabinet Office). The limited-time immersive exhibition, where masterpieces of Ukiyo-e that continue to fascinate the world across eras dynamically come to life, will finally open in Hiroshima.
