Otsuya x Sabae City Employees' Mutual Aid Association: Unmanned Store for Employees Opens Inside Sabae City Hall

Otsuya Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture; 30th-generation head: Otsuya Magosaburo) has opened an unmanned self-checkout store inside Sabae City Hall on Monday, June 1, 2026, commissioned by the Sabae City Employees' Mutual Aid Association, a mutual support organization for city employees.

To meet the lunch and light meal needs of municipal staff, the store offers a selection of bento boxes, onigiri, bread, and beverages under the Orange BOX brand, aiming to enhance convenience within the city hall premises.

In recent years, interest in unmanned, labor-saving stores utilizing self-checkout systems has grown due to challenges such as labor shortages and operational burdens in kiosk management. Otsuya has previously expanded unmanned stores in accommodations and corporate facilities, and will apply this expertise to operate the new store within Sabae City Hall.

This store marks Otsuya's first workplace-focused store within a government or public institution.

Moving forward, Otsuya will continue to enhance convenience and local services by building community-rooted stores and challenging new sales models.
