We endorse April Dream, an initiative to make April 1st a day to share dreams. This press release represents the dream of Oralcare Inc.
Oralcare Inc. (Headquarters: Arakawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Takuya Otake) is promoting the spread of preventive dentistry based on the concept and evidence of preventive dentistry deeply rooted in Sweden. As one of its initiatives to foster awareness and actions that "teeth can be protected" throughout Japan, the company is now advocating for "making periodontal disease prevention using dental floss a daily routine." As the first step towards realizing this dream, the "Invitation from Fluorfloss – 7 Days to Enjoy the Change" floss habit challenge project will be held starting April 1, 2026 (Wednesday).

## Reasons for Aiming for a "Society Where Flossing is Normal"
According to a survey by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, over 90% of Japanese people brush their teeth daily. Against the backdrop of rising self-care awareness, the number of people suffering from cavities has been on a declining trend in recent years.
On the other hand, the indicator of periodontal disease progression, "people with periodontal pockets of 4mm or more," increases with age. Care for periodontal pockets is difficult with just a toothbrush and is currently not adequately addressed.
Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection in which plaque (bacteria) accumulated in periodontal pockets causes inflammation of the gums.
If it progresses, the bone supporting the teeth can dissolve, potentially leading to tooth loss. If caught in the early stage of gingivitis, it can be improved with daily care.
That's why, now that brushing teeth has become a norm, the next necessary step is "gum protection care (=cleaning periodontal pockets)."
**Dental floss is effective as a means to remove plaque from these periodontal pockets.** "Fluorfloss," specifically designed for periodontal disease prevention, gently enters deep into periodontal pockets and effectively traps bacteria.
## "Invitation from Fluorfloss," a Participatory Project to Support a 7-Day Floss Challenge
To make use of Fluorfloss and incorporate periodontal disease prevention as a more familiar habit, Oralcare Inc. is holding "Invitation from Fluorfloss – 7 Days to Enjoy the Change."
Flossing is simpler than many people imagine, and no special preparation is required.
It only needs to be used once a day, at any time. The floss is simply wrapped around the middle fingers of both hands. You can start with pinpoint care for specific areas, such as only the back teeth.
---
**In this project, tips for using floss will be introduced one by one over 7 days. Participants will receive a message via LINE every day at 9 PM, conveying care points clearly with text and videos, encouraging the first step to incorporating flossing into their daily routine.**
It's a step-by-step program where flossing naturally becomes a familiar item.

### April 4th is "Periodontal Disease Prevention Day"
Periodontal disease is the number one cause of tooth loss among Japanese people (Public Interest Incorporated Foundation 8020 Promotion Foundation, "2nd Survey Report on Causes of Permanent Tooth Extraction," 2018). In addition to causing bad breath and bleeding gums, its connection to overall systemic health has garnered attention in recent years.
"Periodontal Disease Prevention Day" on April 4th was established with the aim of broadly communicating the importance of periodontal disease prevention.
Throughout Japan, many dental hygienists are working to correctly convey methods of periodontal disease prevention and contribute to people's health. This day was established by the "Goodbye Perio Project," launched by Oralcare Inc. to support such professionals.
