Dating App 'Yoitoki' Launches Secure 'Single Status Verification' Feature

OLA PARTY JAPAN, operator of the dating app 'Yoitoki,' now offers a 'Single Status Verification' feature, allowing users to verify and display their own single status.

This feature addresses challenges in online dating, such as the psychological burden of verifying a partner's marital status, potential misunderstandings after a relationship begins, and the communication cost of confirming serious intent.

According to a survey by the Children and Families Agency, 25.1% of married people met their spouses through matching apps, surpassing the 20.5% who met through workplace or work-related connections. While 56.8% of married people have used dating apps, only 31.5% of unmarried people have. Online encounters have become a significant pathway to marriage.

However, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare statistics show 485,063 marriages in 2024, an increase of 10,322 from the previous year, yet the marriage rate remains at 4.0 per thousand population. Creating an environment where marital status can be confirmed is a practical challenge in the matchmaking industry.

A 'Certificate of Single Status' is a government-issued document proving that a person is not currently married, satisfying the prohibition against bigamy under Article 732 of the Civil Code. It is often required for marriage agencies.

Furthermore, in June 2025, the Digital Agency signed an agreement with the Association of Marriage Matching App Operators to leverage My Number cards for attribute verification, including age, single status, and income, aiming to improve service reliability.

Company Survey: 70% of Users Believe a Single Status Verification Mechanism is Necessary

Yoitoki conducted a survey of 200 people with dating app experience regarding single status verification. Key findings include:

- 72.5% feel a mechanism to check if a partner is single is necessary.
- 64.0% have felt anxious because they could not determine a partner's marital status.
- 69.5% say a 'Verified' status reduces the psychological burden of starting a conversation.
- 66.0% view the feature as an indicator of serious marriage intent.
- 58.5% feel uncomfortable asking a partner directly if they are single.
- 61.0% find it easier to talk about the future with verified users.
- 73.0% feel more secure when such a feature is present.
