Nikko Style Nagoya (Location: Nagoya City, Nakamura Ward, Aichi Prefecture, General Manager: Toshikazu Fuse) will host the traditional craft workshop 'Gifu Lantern & Bonbori Painting Experience' on Saturday, July 25, 2026. Additionally, from Saturday, June 20 to Sunday, July 26, a ceiling decoration display using Gifu wagasa will be held in the same lobby. Along with the workshop, you can enjoy a moment of traditional beauty from Gifu.
Gifu lanterns and Gifu wagasa are traditional crafts that were born about 300 years ago, backed by the regional characteristics of being close to the production area of Mino washi paper and blessed with high-quality bamboo from the Kiso River basin. Currently, both boast the top production volume in Japan and continue to pass on the beauty that has been inherited with the skills of craftsmen to this day.
In this workshop, Yumiko Kawaguchi, who is involved in the cultural succession of Gifu lanterns and Gifu wagasa, will be the instructor, introducing the history and characteristics of each. You can experience the charm of items that have been familiar in daily life as practical items while also possessing the beauty of craftworks.
In the painting experience, you can choose one of three types: bonbori, handheld lantern, and letter lantern. While drawing your favorite patterns or designs on washi paper, you can easily experience the fun of making things.
Please enjoy the charming scene where the soft light passing through the washi paper illuminates the space with the completed work. Through this event, we will deliver a moment that will remain as a summer vacation memory for your family, allowing you to experience the profound charm of traditional crafts.
