Hotel JAL City Aomori (Location: Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture; General Manager: Saori Hayama) began exhibiting 'Nebuta,' a traditional Aomori culture, within the hotel on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. The first-floor lobby features a Nebuta float depicting the Chinese immortal 'Oujikyo,' while the area above the front desk showcases an 'Airplane Nebuta' modeled after a Japan Airlines aircraft to welcome guests. This exhibition was made possible through the cooperation of Nebuta masters Hiroo Takenami and Shigeki Tezuka, who shared the goal of spreading Aomori's traditional Nebuta culture to the world. Nebuta, famous for the Aomori Nebuta Festival, is a deeply rooted local tradition. Our hotel initiated this permanent exhibition with the desire to provide a space where guests can experience the charm of Nebuta regardless of the season. We hope that by allowing guests from Japan and abroad to encounter this unique Aomori culture, we can contribute to the inheritance and development of local traditions by creating new opportunities for cultural outreach. The 'Oujikyo' Nebuta in the lobby is a traditional piece based on the legend of the Chinese immortal. In contrast, the 'Airplane Nebuta' at the front desk is a modern interpretation, using a Japan Airlines aircraft as its motif. ■ About the Lobby Exhibition: 'Oujikyo Nebuta' This Nebuta was created by the 7th generation Nebuta Master, Hiroo Takenami, and is based on the Chinese immortal 'Oujikyo.' Known as the crown prince of King Ling of Zhou, Oujikyo is said to have appeared on the summit of Mount Gou-shi in Henan Province, China, riding a white crane, and is celebrated as a symbol of longevity. The depiction of the white crane taking flight represents the hope that Nebuta culture will spread from Aomori to the world. Additionally, in honor of Oujikyo’s legendary longevity of over 100 years, the piece carries wishes for the health and long life of the people of Aomori. Guests can view the master-crafted work up close and use it as a photo spot. Nebuta Master Hiroo Takenami
