Our company endorses April Dream, which aims to make April 1st a day for expressing dreams. This press release is a dream of "Okayama Food Service Co., Ltd."

"Connecting delicious food to the future 100 years from now" - Okayama Food Service Co., Ltd.'s April Dream

Okayama Food Service Co., Ltd. (Head office: Sumiyoshi-ku, Osaka https://www.okayamafs.com) operates under the philosophy that 'food is good for people.' We are a "food future creation company" that practices 'sixth-sector industrialization,' handling all aspects of food production, processing, distribution, and service ourselves. Our business includes wholesale food supply to the restaurant industry, central kitchen代行 services at our factories, production of chicken, tea, and sweet potatoes at our own farm in Kagoshima, and operation of惣菜 (delicatessen) stores and restaurants mainly in urban areas of Kansai.

Our passion for food and the "dream" we want to achieve in the face of the impending food crisis

Japan's food self-sufficiency rate is 38% (on a calorie basis), which is now the lowest among developed countries. As a global scramble for food begins, we, as those involved in food, are taking action to support Japanese agriculture, even if only a little, by engaging in agriculture ourselves.

Furthermore, we aim to achieve 100% resource utilization by composting livestock-derived cow and chicken manure, which are regional waste issues, along with food scraps and pomace from processing factories. Without relying on chemical fertilizers, which are mostly imported, we are committed to producing delicious and safe agricultural products while circulating Japan's limited resources.

What we aim for, our dream, is:

"To revitalize Japanese agriculture and connect delicious food to the future 100 years from now."

Although it is a completely different field from wholesale, we believe that protecting Japanese agriculture is our mission as those involved in food.

Circular agriculture in Kagoshima and a new challenge in Nara Prefecture

Chicken coop of "Satsuma Gokkei Daimao" in Minamikyushu City, Kagoshima Prefecture

We produce the essential compost for circular agriculture ourselves. "Kuroi Hitomi" (Black Eyes) is a compost made by mixing chicken manure collected from the free-range chicken coops of our original brand chicken "Satsuma Gokkei Daimao" (Great Demon King) raised on our own farm, with "shochu waste liquid" generated during the production of shochu, a key industry in Kagoshima, and fermenting it. Using this natural fertilizer, we produce tea and sweet potatoes without using chemical pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

Kagoshima is a livestock kingdom, and chicken, pig, and cow manure are still being disposed of as industrial waste. We aim to achieve 100% resource utilization of food residues by refining our own practical examples of circular agriculture and expanding these examples and initiatives together with the local community.

Circular agriculture and creating a hub for people in the Fukusumi area of Tenri City

Climatic conditions and agricultural products vary greatly by region. Leveraging our experience in Kagoshima Prefecture, we believe it is important to create many small local cycles in various places, and we have begun a new challenge for regional revitalization centered on agriculture in Tenri City, Nara Prefecture. Although there are still many challenges to overcome, we will work with Tenri City, which has declared itself an organic village, to spread the production of body-friendly products.

Our activities are just a small step to boost agriculture. However, we believe that by continuing these activities, Japanese agriculture will be revitalized, and it will lead to protecting Japan's food supply.
