◆ Overview
Okayama University, National University Corporation (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City; President: Yasutomo Nasu) hosted the 8th meeting of 'Kosou Nexus' at the Creative Innovation Lab (KIBINOVE: Kibinove) on its Tsushima Campus, following the 7th meeting. 'Kosou Nexus' is a research hub designed to connect researchers from diverse fields who utilize 'light' as a research tool, aiming to generate new research themes and applications.
This meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration among institutions selected for J-PEAKS (Program to Enhance and Promote Regional Core and Distinctive Research Universities). Multiple lecturers from Okayama University and external institutions were invited to deliver expert presentations and engage in active discussions. Open to the entire university community, the event attracted 25 participants, including faculty members, students, URAs, coordinators (industry-academia collaboration and academic research), and members from other research hubs.
The meeting began with an opening address by Professor Hiroaki Misawa, specially appointed professor at the Advanced Research Field (Fundamentals of Interdisciplinary Research), Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, who serves as the meeting's coordinator. Professor Misawa then delivered a lecture titled 'Artificial Photosynthesis and High-Sensitivity Spectroscopy Enabled by Quantum Coherence Strong Coupling and J-PEAKS Photonics Collaborative Research.'
Following this, Professor Akihiro Furube from the Institute of Post-LED Photonics at Tokushima University presented on 'Elucidating Electron Transfer at Nanomaterial Interfaces Based on Ultrafast Spectroscopy and Photofunctional Applications.' Professor Yoichiro Hosokawa from the Graduate School of Materials Science at Nara Institute of Science and Technology spoke on 'Medical-Engineering Collaborative Research Integrating Light and AI.' Professor Yasuyuki Tsuboi from the Graduate School of Science at Osaka Metropolitan University delivered a lecture titled 'Light Manipulation Chemistry: Controlling Nanomaterials with Light,' and Professor Chie Hosokawa from the same university's Graduate School of Science presented on 'Cell Function Control via Laser Perturbation.'
After each lecture, a Q&A session was held, enabling rich discussions between speakers and participants. During the subsequent open discussion, participants explored the potential for new collaborative research projects among J-PEAKS institutions, based on research seeds such as ultrafast spectroscopy, theoretical analysis, nano-processing, and bio-medical measurement. Following the meeting, a networking session was held off-campus, further deepening interactions among participants.
'Kosou Nexus' aims to grow as an open platform for exchange and co-creation, welcoming not only researchers working with light but all researchers who wish to 'take on new challenges' and 'connect across disciplines.' Please stay tuned for future activities. We also appreciate your continued support for Okayama University's initiatives as an open, regional core, and distinctive research university.
