◆ Overview

On April 16, 2026, a delegation from Haiphong University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Vietnam, which has an inter-university agreement with Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City; President: Yasutomo Nasu), including President NGUYEN Van Khai, visited Okayama University and paid a courtesy visit to President Yasutomo Nasu. From Okayama University, Vice President and Professor Takuo Kuboki of the Academic Research Institute for Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Toshitaka Ohashi, Professor Tomoyuki Honda, Professor Toshihiro Koyama, Associate Professor Hyesook Kim, Assistant Professor Azusa Maeda, and Director and Professor Yoshito Zamami of the Academic Research Institute for Medical Development, as well as 12 Vietnamese international students studying at the university, attended. President Khai had previously visited the university in July 2023, making this a reunion after approximately three years.

Okayama University and Haiphong University of Medicine and Pharmacy signed a departmental agreement between their dental faculties in 2010, which evolved into an inter-university agreement in 2015. Since then, continuous exchange of students and faculty members has taken place. Their achievements in exchange have been highly evaluated, and in December 2013, Professor Kuboki, mentioned above, was awarded the title of Honorary Professor by the Vietnamese university. In August 2024, Professor Ohashi also received the same honor, and since then, many faculty members from Okayama University's medical and dental fields have been awarded the title of Honorary Professor, further expanding the circle of exchange.

During the courtesy visit, greetings were exchanged by the presidents of both universities, and Assistant Professor Maeda gave a presentation on past exchange achievements and future prospects, deepening the exchange in a consistently amicable atmosphere.

President Nasu expressed gratitude for the visit and showed his expectation to "further develop the cooperative relationship that both universities have built so far." He also encouraged the attending students, based on his own experience of studying abroad, saying, "I hope you cherish this valuable opportunity to study abroad, and the university will spare no effort to support you in making that experience even more fruitful."

This visit is expected to further deepen the international exchange between Okayama University and Haiphong University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Please continue to look forward to the initiatives of Okayama University, an open regional core and distinctive research university.
