◆ Overview

Associate Professor Sachi Yoshikawa of the Academic Research and Education Management Division (Public Knowledge Co-creation Office) at National University Corporation Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City; President: Yasutomo Nasu) participated in a certified facilitator training course for the "Children's Carbon Neutral Card Game" on April 18, 2026. This game is organized by the Kurashiki Junior Chamber, with whom she has collaborated on its development.

This card game is being produced jointly by the Junior Chamber and Project Design Inc. Since its unveiling on February 16, continuous improvements have been made based on children's understanding and ease of experience, resulting in a product that increasingly balances educational effectiveness with playability. With the game nearing completion, this was the first certified facilitator training course held.

The training course covered preparation methods and operational points for event implementation, practice in explaining rules, and practical card handling exercises. Notably, a thorough warm-up process aimed to clarify "what one truly wishes to achieve as an individual or organizational member involved in carbon neutrality," fostering a sense of responsibility in becoming a facilitator.

Associate Professor Yoshikawa, who participated, commented, "The card game is easy for elementary school students to understand and enjoyable for adults. Although it is a simplified version of an adult game, making facilitation more challenging, it seems feasible to implement within two elementary school periods, making it easy to use in educational settings."

Prior to the training course, a second experience session was held on April 17, the day before, with approximately 24 participants, including representatives from companies supporting the card game production (members of the Kurashiki Junior Chamber) and related organizations from Shimane and Tottori prefectures. Through a two-hour game, participants experienced the game's completeness, and active opinions on further improvements were shared during the post-game review.

The Junior Chamber is already planning meetings with elementary schools in the city, and future utilization in school settings is anticipated.

Okayama University, for its part, plans to organize "Carbon Neutral Card Game Experience Events" utilizing the certified facilitator qualification obtained by Associate Professor Yoshikawa, aiming to raise environmental awareness among its students. Please look forward to the ongoing efforts of Okayama University as an open regional core and distinctive research university.
