◆Overview
The General Technical Division, which constitutes the Technical Management Headquarters of the National University Corporation Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City, President: Yasuyuki Hibino), held the TC College Medical Engineering Course "Electron Microscope Sample Preparation (Basic)" in an in-person format on February 19, 2026, at the Shikada Campus. This curriculum aims to teach the basics of standard biological sample preparation methods essential for electron microscope observation.
On the day, Mr. Masahiro Narasaki, Head of the Medical Engineering Technology Section of the General Technical Division, and Ms. Moemi Tsukano, Chief Technician, served as instructors, conducting a program that combined lectures and practical training covering the entire process from sample fixation to observation. Students from both the Medical Engineering Course and the Materials Analysis Course participated in this curriculum, deepening their understanding from both theoretical and practical perspectives through hands-on training with actual samples.
An instructor explained, "Electron microscope sample preparation techniques are not acquired immediately, but understanding the key points will lead to future sample preparation and advice on experimental planning."
Mr. Masahiro Fujii, a Technical Specialist who participated, commented, "This was a valuable training session where I understood the importance of sample preparation in electron microscopy. I learned detailed methods in the lecture and experienced the techniques for each step in the practical session, making it a very rewarding day. I want to utilize the knowledge and experience gained from this training in my future research support activities." Ms. Yuko Hojo, another Technical Specialist, commented, "I used to think electron microscope sample preparation was difficult, but by understanding the key points of materials and processes in this training, I feel I can now tackle sample preparation myself. Experiencing the actual process deepened my understanding of the steps leading to electron microscope observation, making it a meaningful opportunity."
Regarding this curriculum, Mr. Norihito Sato, Vice President, Vice Chancellor, and Senior URA, Head of the General Technical Division, commented, "The two instructors have obtained TC qualifications in the 'Medical Engineering Course' and are highly skilled professionals. This not only helps in internalizing expertise but also strengthens the scheme for learning from predecessors and advancing and inheriting knowledge as a career path. We will continue to promote the enhancement of human resource development as an open regional core and distinctive research university. We look forward to your continued support."
With the completion of this curriculum, all curricula for the Medical Engineering Course for this academic year have concluded. We express our deepest gratitude to all TC College participants, instructors, faculty members who facilitated the site visits, and representatives from cooperating companies. We will strive to implement even more fulfilling curricula next year as part of our efforts to enhance the skills of technical staff.
The General Technical Division aims to strengthen partnerships among technical staff across the university and enhance their skills through diverse training programs, thereby reinforcing its role as a partner supporting the research, education, and clinical activities of Okayama University, a regional core and distinctive research university.
As a university selected for the "Promotion of Enhancement of Regional Core and Distinctive Research Universities" (J-PEAKS) project, we ask for your continued anticipation of the ceaseless challenges undertaken by Okayama University, a research university that co-creates the future of regions and the globe and realizes societal transformation, and the activities of the technical staff who drive these efforts.
