Oisix Group Enters US B2B Market by Acquiring BentOn's Japanese Food Business in New York

Oisix Ra Daichi Inc., headquartered in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, and providing food subscription services, announced today its decision to acquire the Japanese food business, including in-flight meal catering, from FUN BENTO INC. (BentOn), a New York-based company operating a bento business. This transaction will be executed through a wholly-owned subsidiary (grandchild company) established by Oisix Inc., a US investment subsidiary of Oisix Ra Daichi. The company has expanded its business domain from domestic B2C subscription services to B2B subscription services (school meal services) since the acquisition of Shidax's food business in 2024. This acquisition of BentOn's Japanese food business in the US marks its first entry into the US B2B market, with the business transfer scheduled for June 2026. According to a survey by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the number of Japanese restaurants in North America is projected to reach approximately 29,400 by 2025, an increase of over 1.7 times compared to approximately 17,000 in 2013, driven by rising health consciousness. BentOn has established a strong position in New York, a city with high demand for Japanese food, as a deli specializing in healthy and nutritionally balanced Japanese bento and side dishes. They offer services that blend traditional Japanese flavors with modern needs and have extensive catering experience for sports teams in Japan and the US. Oisix and BentOn have previously collaborated on joint US-Japan sales of Oisix-BentOn meal kits. The acquisition aims to build a business foundation in the US B2B market by strengthening collaboration with BentOn to create an integrated 'Japanese food provision platform' from manufacturing to supply. It also seeks to maximize group synergy by combining BentOn's Japanese food manufacturing expertise with Oisix Ra Daichi's product development capabilities, and to strengthen a stable revenue base in North America through a flexible supply system utilizing its own facilities. The Board of Directors of Oisix Inc. approved the decision on April 14, 2026. The business transfer agreement is scheduled for May 2026, and the business transfer date is planned for June 2026. Oisix Ra Daichi Inc. provides regular home delivery services for safe and secure agricultural products and meal kits through its main domestic brands 'Oisix,' 'Radish Boya,' and 'Daichi wo Mamoru Kai.' Its subsidiaries include 'Shidax Contract Food Service' and 'Shidax Food Service,' which operate school meal services, 'Tokushimaru,' a mobile supermarket for people with difficulty shopping, and 'PurpleCarrot,' which develops plant-based meal kits in the US. The company is committed to SDGs as a 'Sustainable Retailer,' aiming for zero food loss across the entire supply chain from farm to table through subscription model demand forecasting, active utilization of imperfect produce, and meal kits that reduce household food waste.
