Open House Group (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Ryosuke Fukuoka; hereinafter referred to as "the Company") will donate 25,000 "original design garbage bags" to Shibuya City with the aim of raising environmental awareness and supporting diverse social participation. Since its establishment in Shibuya in 1997 with just a few members, our group has grown and walked alongside this city. Although we have now expanded our business nationwide, our identity has always remained in Shibuya, our starting point.

In agreement with Shibuya City's initiative to create "a beautiful city proud to the world," this donation of garbage bags was made to promote the new rules (strengthening measures against littering) accompanying a partial amendment to the "Ordinance for Creating a Beautiful Shibuya for Everyone" which will take effect on June 1st this year, with penalties to be applied.

Scene of the Donation Ceremony

Today, April 24th (Friday), a donation ceremony was held at Shibuya City Hall for Shibuya City.

At the ceremony, Mr. Jun Shirai, Head of Communication Design Department at our company, presented the catalog to the Mayor of Shibuya City. Furthermore, Ms. Hitomi Yokota of Long Life Partner Co., Ltd., who has traditionally engaged in environmental issues and support for people with disabilities and was responsible for the production of these garbage bags, spoke about her passion for supporting people with disabilities, followed by a photo session with the three individuals.

Comments from Speakers (Summary)

Mr. Ken Hasebe, Mayor of Shibuya City:
Thank you very much for this donation.
In Shibuya City, we partially revised the "Ordinance for Creating a Beautiful Shibuya for Everyone" in April, and will begin collecting fines for littering from June. Prior to this, the portable garbage bags donated today will be utilized in the mass cleanup scheduled for April 28th, "Shibuya Day." We feel greatly encouraged and grateful that this mass cleanup and the utilization of these garbage bags will be a good opportunity to inform many people about the ordinance amendment. We also sincerely appreciate that the welfare workshops within the ward were utilized for the production of the garbage bags.
We will effectively utilize this donated item in the future. Thank you very much.

Mr. Jun Shirai, Head of Communication Design Department at our company:
Shibuya City is also the birthplace of our company, attracting a lot of young energy and foreign tourists, where various cultures coexist, making it an attractive ward with many faces. We sometimes see reports of cases where it becomes difficult to thoroughly keep the city clean due to people from various backgrounds gathering at events.
We believe that the strengthened penalties, which will be applied from June 1st, are a very good measure for businesses to protect the living environment. We thought that the functional and well-designed garbage bags from Long Life Partner, which we planned this time, would be easily accepted into Shibuya City's culture. We ourselves want to strive to contribute even a little to Shibuya City's cultural dissemination to the world.

Ms. Hitomi Yokota, Long Life Partner Co., Ltd.:
Through our initiative of "taking our own trash home," we have met many companies and local governments and have realized its importance. We believe that if each individual's actions change, the city can become more beautiful and sustainable. I myself work in a restaurant in Shibuya City, and the realization born from facing the city as a member of the same community, combined with my desire to convey "value to be preserved for the future" as a World Heritage presenter, has led me to continue this activity.
This initiative involves attaching a sticker with campaign details to a portable garbage bag that looks like a wet wipe. If possible, we also hope to spread a new sense of value where carrying this portable garbage bag is "cool," and foster a culture of taking trash home with a light heart. Furthermore, by placing orders for these stickers with people with disabilities at a fair price, we aim to create sustainable and fair employment opportunities. Currently, while there is institutional support such as the comprehensive support system for people with disabilities, I personally feel that there are still challenges remaining for their independence. We aim for this to be an opportunity to consider its ideal state, and though modest, to serve as a model.
This time, in talking with Open House, I was deeply impressed by their corporate philosophy of "supporting diverse social participation." I am extremely pleased that, with the passionate support of Open House, this project expanded and was realized with the understanding of Shibuya City. Although our contribution is small, we sincerely hope that this initiative will contribute to solving social issues and spread from Shibuya, representing Japan's information dissemination, to the entire country and the world.
