■ Project Background
On January 1, 2024, the Noto Peninsula earthquake occurred, leading to the closure of the only coin laundry in Monzen-machi, Wajima City. As temporary housing life continued, residents faced daily inconveniences such as "laundry not drying" and expressed urgent desires for "a place where they can easily talk to someone." In response, the General Incorporated Association NOTOTO. and the Sojiji-dori Shopping Street decided to establish a laundry cafe.
Funding was raised through the crowdfunding site "READYFOR," achieving 10,066,000 yen (target amount 10 million yen) from a total of 601 supporters. In addition, corporate sponsorships, public subsidies, and NOTOTO.'s own funds were also utilized for the development.
■ Involvement of the Association and Member Companies
The Association participated in this project as a "cooperator." Our member company, Create Remon Co., Ltd., was responsible for the construction, realizing a building that leveraged the expertise of offsite (factory-made) construction.
The Association actively promotes the utilization of offsite construction technology for temporary housing and disaster response facilities, and this project serves as a concrete practical example of this.

The name "Kurukuru Cafe" was decided after consulting with residents, embodying the wish for many interactions and encounters to arise while laundry is spinning in the washing machine and dryer, such as local people chatting, drinking tea, and interacting with people from outside the region.
■ Utilizing Local Resources and "A Cafe Made by Everyone"
To cope with rising construction costs, painting under the indoor cafe counter and the exterior wooden deck were changed to DIY. A total of 43 people (including 11 from outside the prefecture), such as local youth, shopping street members, and volunteers from Tokyo, participated.
In addition, old materials from public demolition (old fittings, floorboards from old houses, wooden boxes from traditional restaurants) were reused as interior materials with the cooperation of Kozai Create Aogumi, realizing a space that inherits the memory of the region.
■ Comment from the Association
Since the Noto Peninsula earthquake, we have deeply respected the residents of Monzen-machi, Wajima City, who have cherished their community ties and walked forward despite difficult living conditions. In cooperating with NOTOTO.'s initiative, our member company Create Remon, utilizing its offsite construction technology, was able to participate in the construction and the birth of "Kurukuru Cafe." We sincerely hope that this place will naturally bring smiles and conversations while laundry spins.
