At Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026, Gerald Charles, the independent Swiss watch maison founded by Gérald Charles Genta, introduces the most complex timepiece in its current lineup, representing a world-first endeavor in the watch industry.
Sculptural, high-tech, and extremely modern, the 'Masterlink Perpetual Calendar' is born from complete in-house development. It marks a new dawn for the young, ambitious maison as it continues to expand its collection of poetic complications.
In the 400-year history of Swiss watchmaking, this is the first time an in-house, self-winding perpetual calendar caliber with an asymmetric structure and three counters has ever been presented.
Based on the 'no compromise' watchmaking philosophy established by Mr. Genta over 25 years ago, the 'Masterlink Perpetual Calendar' serves as a new pioneer model in watchmaking. In the 400-year history of Swiss watchmaking, this is the first time an in-house, self-winding perpetual calendar caliber featuring an asymmetric structure and three counters has been presented.
Furthermore, despite demanding complex shapes and advanced engineering, this model achieves a water resistance of 100 meters. In other words, it is a perpetual calendar timepiece that you can even swim with.
The three counters display the day, date, month, moon phase, and leap year, mechanically programmed to operate accurately for over 100 years, accounting for the varying lengths of months and leap years. Driving this is the Caliber GCA11000, equipped with an automatic winding mechanism via a golden micro-rotor, achieving a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. This new caliber also serves as the foundation to support future watchmaking innovations at Gerald Charles.
The Masterlink Perpetual Calendar brilliantly integrates multiple complex ideas and concepts. Its starting point was the movement, the beating heart of the timepiece. In shaped watches, movements are often round, creating wasted space within the case, which is typically hidden by a round see-through case back.
The case and movement establish a perfect symbiotic relationship, where design and ultra-thin mechanics play a beautiful symphony. The Masterlink Perpetual Calendar represents a sculptural and extremely contemporary reinterpretation of one of watchmaking's most admired complications.
This model consists of a total of 505 components: 306 in the GCA11000 movement, 33 in the case, 15 in the dial, and 151 in the bracelet. Both the 40mm diameter case and the 3-link bracelet are made of Grade 5 titanium, a lightweight and high-performance material. The thickness is 10mm, and it weighs a mere 97 grams. As a result, the timepiece is ergonomic and highly versatile, combining exceptional quality, innovation, and technical merit.
