Announcement of Nursing DX Award Judge: Former President of Japan Federation of Nurses, Toshiko Oshima, Appointed as Judge for Nursing DX Award 2026

The Japan Association of Male Nurses (located in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Kosuke Tsubota; hereinafter, "the Association") announces that Toshiko Oshima, former president of the Japan Federation of Nurses, has been appointed as a judge for the "Nursing DX Award 2026."

■ Background of Appointment

The Nursing DX Award 2026 is an award that recognizes digital services truly useful in nursing practice across five fields: nursing records, nursing education, nursing management, home nursing, and patient support. At its inaugural event last year, it garnered widespread attention in the nursing and healthcare DX fields, being featured in many media outlets, including specialist nursing magazines and Yahoo! News.

This year, for its second iteration, Ms. Toshiko Oshima, who has been at the forefront of both nursing policy and nursing management, was invited to serve as a judge to further enhance the fairness and expertise of the judging process.

■ Introduction of New Judge

Toshiko Oshima (Former President of Japan Federation of Nurses / President of Freesia Nurse Association)

After serving as Nursing Manager at Yokosuka Kyosai Hospital and Nursing Director at Yokosuka Hokubu Kyosai Hospital, she held positions as Vice Hospital Director and Nursing Director at Kobe University Hospital. Subsequently, she became a part-time lecturer and medical researcher, and was appointed as a research evaluation committee member for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (in 2023). From 2019, she served as President of the Japan Federation of Nurses, actively working for many years on nursing policy formulation and professional development.

For many years, the nursing profession has struggled with labor shortages. Each workplace has strived for work improvement, human resource development, and work-sharing, but situations where WLB (work-life balance) and work style reforms cannot keep up are often seen. Furthermore, the perspective of management has drastically changed since the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring speed and scale, making digitalization and AI development indispensable. To maintain a sustainable social security system, let us collaborate with companies, work together, solve challenges in safe clinical practice, and create a new, easier-to-work-in environment.

Ms. Toshiko Oshima, as the President of the Japan Federation of Nurses, has not only been at the forefront of nursing policy but is also a pioneer of challenge and innovation in the nursing industry, having received a Good Design Award as a nurse. When I learned of her award, I strongly felt that nurses could contribute to society through the perspective of design, and I myself decided to take on the challenge of the Good Design Award. That I was able to fulfill my dream by receiving an award afterward is precisely because of her example. And that experience led to my desire to visualize DX services that frontline nurses can safely choose, which in turn led to the establishment of this award. It is a special joy for me that she accepted to be a judge. With a panel of judges possessing three perspectives—nursing policy, nursing management, and frontline experience—we will select DX services that frontline nurses can truly trust.

In the nursing industry, which continues to face serious labor shortages, DX is no longer an option but an essential condition for ensuring sustainability. S.U.N Inc. aims to fairly evaluate "solutions that the frontline truly needs" from a nurse's perspective and spread them to society. We envision a future where nursing professionals who understand frontline challenges and companies with innovative technologies work hand in hand. We hope this award will be the starting point for an ecosystem that brings tangible benefits to the nursing field.

■ About the Japan Association of Male Nurses (New members currently being recruited)

Established in September 2014. An organization operating with the motto "Nursing for Nurses," aiming to solve issues for the entire nursing profession and improve the medical environment, including for patients. It engages in diverse activities such as organizing the Nursing DX Award, countermeasures against customer harassment, industrial nursing support, and home nursing support. It widely works on improving the environment surrounding nurses, including over 50 lectures annually at prefectural nursing associations and academic societies. It is an organization open to all people involved in healthcare, including female nurses.
Currently, we are actively recruiting colleagues, regardless of gender, to update the healthcare field together. We offer various seminars and exchange meetings that are useful for nurses.
