Nagoya University of Commerce and Business (Nissin City, Aichi Prefecture, President: Hiroyuki Kurimoto) is implementing a system for its general recommendation B and general entrance examinations that utilizes scores from external English proficiency tests. Scores from qualification and proficiency tests such as Eiken®, GTEC, IELTS, and TOEFL iBT will be converted into scores for the university's English examination, evaluating applicants who have continuously engaged in English learning since high school.

In recent years, university entrance exams have placed importance on English proficiency that comprehensively encompasses "reading, listening, speaking, and writing." Meanwhile, the number of applicants who have honed practical English skills by challenging qualification and proficiency tests during high school is also increasing.

Nagoya University of Commerce and Business has introduced the external English proficiency test utilization system with the aim of appropriately evaluating such learning outcomes and connecting them to study abroad and international education after university enrollment. The target qualification and proficiency tests include Eiken®, GTEC, TEAP, IELTS, TOEFL iBT, TOEIC® L&R TEST, and Cambridge English Qualifications, among others. Depending on the acquired score, it will be converted into a score for the university's English examination, allowing applicants to leverage their efforts accumulated in high school in their entrance exams.

Our university positions English proficiency not merely as a subject for exams, but as a foundational skill for learning and succeeding in the global arena. We promote international education not only in the Faculty of International Studies but across all faculties, including the Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Business Administration, and Faculty of Economics, offering diverse learning opportunities such as overseas study, exchange programs, and international exchange programs.

Furthermore, we have adopted the case method education, which is utilized in business schools worldwide, across the entire university, fostering decision-making skills and leadership through repeated discussions on real-world issues. The utilization of external English proficiency tests is a mechanism that not only evaluates learning up to high school but also connects it to further international learning.

Nagoya University of Commerce and Business will continue to enhance its educational environment for nurturing individuals who can thrive globally, while appropriately evaluating the learning outcomes achieved up to high school.
