NUCB Nagoya University of Commerce and Business Holds First Summer Open Campus, Offering Case Method Education to Foster "Thinking Skills" for the AI Era

Nagoya University of Commerce and Business (NUCB) (President: Hiroyuki Kurimoto) will hold its "Summer Open Campus" on Saturday, July 25th at the Nagoya Campus and Sunday, July 26th at the Nissin Campus.

NUCB has adopted the "case method" across the entire university, where students engage in discussions using real-world corporate and social issues as teaching materials. On the day, participants can experience university learning through themes familiar to high school students, such as data science based on the Titanic disaster, UNIQLO's marketing strategies, and regulations on stealth marketing in the SNS era. Additionally, a special lecture by the university president, interactions with current students, and campus tours will be held, providing prospective students, parents, and high school teachers with an opportunity to experience the world-class educational environment and campus life.

What is a Case Method Experiential Class?

We have adopted "case method education" across the entire university to foster the ability to think and explore management issues from one's own perspective. The teaching materials are real corporate cases. Students develop the ability to think about and solve challenges in the corporate world from their own viewpoint. This enhances practical skills, communication abilities, and leadership required in society. It is a class that strikes a balanced approach between "practice" and "theory," which is unique among universities.

UNIQLO's Marketing

Instructor: Professor Yuji Ono (Dean of the Faculty of Commerce)

Amidst the expansion of online sales, what kind of store strategy should UNIQLO adopt in the future? We will consider the actual management issue of "opening or closing stores" using the case method.

What if You Were the Insurance Representative for the Titanic? ~Save the Company with Data~

Instructor: Professor Sangheon Han (Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration)

Using the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 as a case study, participants will act as insurance company representatives, analyze data, and challenge the development of new insurance products. They will experience decision-making using data science and learn the analytical skills required in modern business.

"I Use This Too!" ~Learning About Stealth Marketing Regulations Through Cases~

Instructor: Professor Masamichi Yamamoto

From the perspective of a high school influencer with over 10,000 followers, participants will consider whether to accept advertising deals. Using familiar SNS themes, they will learn about laws, ethics, and the responsibility of information dissemination.

Learning the Case Method in English

Instructor: Professor Stuart Warrington

Through group discussions on topics like "Talk, Think, Decide: Interactive English Learning at NUCB" and "Uniqlo's CSR Problem," participants can experience practical English communication and business English.

Additionally, an "International Session" will be held for international students, featuring a mock class and information on the international student admissions system.

Presidential Special Lecture: "What is the Role of Education in the AI Era?"

President Hiroyuki Kurimoto will deliver a special lecture. He will introduce NUCB's educational philosophy, supported by international accreditations and the case method, the concept of "articulate individuals" fostered through the case method, and the "31 Major System" available after enrollment, discussing the learning and educational environment necessary to succeed in a global society.
