NTT East Corporation, Miyagi Branch (Executive Officer, Miyagi Branch Manager: Hiroshi Sudo, hereinafter referred to as NTT East) will begin introducing an off-site Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (hereinafter referred to as "Off-site PPA"), a long-term procurement of renewable energy, in collaboration with NTT Anode Energy Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and Representative Director: Teruyuki Kishimoto, hereinafter referred to as "NTT Anode Energy") at its own office building, the "Gokei Building," located in Wakabayashi-ku, Sendai City. Through this initiative, starting from April 2026, the Gokei Building will begin using electricity derived from renewable energy (hereinafter referred to as "RE")*1. Furthermore, approximately 2 million*2 kWh annually will be RE-derived electricity, and an emission reduction effect of approximately 800 tons*3 of greenhouse gases is expected. This is equivalent to a greenhouse gas reduction of approximately 500 households when converted from the annual electricity consumption of general households*4. NTT East will promote carbon neutrality initiatives in the region through the introduction of RE at the Gokei Building, which is central to the Miyagi Branch.
NTT East's Initiatives to Reduce CO2 Emissions Based on the NTT Group's new environmental and energy vision, "NTT Green Innovation toward 2040," NTT East Group is advancing initiatives with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality in 2040. In terms of RE introduction, while electricity derived from hydropower plants was introduced in the Gunma area in 2024*5, this time, electricity derived from solar power plants with additionality*6 will be newly introduced in the Miyagi area. By using electricity generated within the same prefecture, it also contributes to the local production and consumption of energy. NTT Anode Energy strives to develop and provide advanced RE and to meet the needs of society and customers, contributing to the realization of carbon neutrality in Japan by 2050.
About this Off-site PPA A Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)*7 is a contract in which a customer long-term purchases RE-derived electricity from a power producer through an electricity retailer. An off-site PPA is a model where electricity is transmitted to the customer (in this case, the Gokei Building) via the transmission and distribution network from power generation facilities in a remote location. In this off-site PPA, NTT Anode Energy realizes the local production and consumption of RE-derived electricity within Miyagi Prefecture by aggregating and providing electricity from multiple solar power plants installed within Miyagi Prefecture to meet the required capacity. <Off-site PPA Scheme Diagram*7>
