Tokyo Electric Power Company Power Grid, Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yoshinori Kaneko; hereinafter "TEPCO PG") and NTT East Corporation (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Naoki Shibuya; hereinafter "NTT East") will begin joint delivery of their respective construction materials (such as transformers and routers) in the Boso area of Chiba Prefecture (Narita, Mobara, Kisarazu) starting today. This initiative is a new trial where different operators, in power and telecommunications, collaborate to jointly deliver construction materials.
1. Background In recent years, the logistics industry has faced a shortage of workers and a decline in transportation capacity, creating a need for initiatives to reduce the burden on drivers and improve transport efficiency. For infrastructure operators, enhancing the efficiency and sophistication of transportation is a crucial issue for ensuring a stable supply of materials while also reducing environmental impact. Furthermore, establishing an efficient transportation system in normal times can be applied during disasters, leading to improved response capabilities. TEPCO PG and NTT East, along with Tokyo Gas Network Co., Inc., have signed a cooperation agreement*1 among the three companies supporting social infrastructure in gas, power, and telecommunications. They are promoting collaboration to improve operational efficiency and sophistication, create social value, and solve regional issues by mutually utilizing their management resources and data. They have already been collaborating in various fields to ensure the sustainable and stable operation of infrastructure businesses, such as strengthening disaster response capabilities and promoting joint inspections. This joint delivery of construction materials is a concrete result of検討ing collaboration in the logistics field as part of the efforts based on this agreement. *1 Press release https://www.ntt-east.co.jp/release/detail/20221118_01.html
2. Initiative Overview TEPCO PG and NTT East will begin joint delivery of their construction materials in the Boso area of Chiba Prefecture (Narita, Mobara, Kisarazu) starting today. In this initiative, NTT East's construction materials will be transported from NTT East's logistics warehouse (Kazo City, Saitama Prefecture) to TEPCO PG's logistics warehouse (Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture), where they will be transshipped. After that, TEPCO PG will deliver the construction materials of both companies on a consolidated basis. The Boso area of Chiba Prefecture was selected as the先行 target because NTT East's delivery route passes near TEPCO PG's logistics warehouse, and the delivery bases of both companies are geographically close, confirming a high affinity for joint delivery.
3. Pilot Experiment Overview and Results Prior to starting the joint delivery, a pilot was conducted to confirm the effectiveness of the above scheme.
(1) Pilot Experiment Overview We verified the joint delivery using TEPCO PG's logistics warehouse as a relay point under the following conditions. Target Area: Chiba Boso Area Frequency: 3 times total (April 17, 2025; April 24, 2025; May 15, 2025)
(2) Pilot Experiment Results*2 The results of the pilot experiment confirmed the following effects per day for each evaluation item. Number of trucks: 1 less Total mileage: 15% reduction Total travel time: 11% reduction Average load factor: 14% increase Total cargo handling time: 40% reduction CO2 emissions: 13% reduction As the pilot experiment confirmed a certain level of effectiveness in each evaluation item, we have decided to officially launch joint delivery in this area. *2 These pilot results are limited to the routes and items targeted for the Chiba Boso area pilot. Also, the conventional operation (each company's individual delivery...
