NPO Himawari no Kai has announced a collaboration with Sekisui Medical Co., Ltd., which handles the medical business of the Sekisui Chemical Group, to launch an awareness campaign regarding expanded newborn screening tests.
Expanded newborn screening is an optional test conducted in addition to conventional newborn mass screening, targeting congenital rare diseases. Understanding the importance of this test is growing, as it leads to the prevention of severe illness, early detection, and expanded treatment options.
However, there has been a challenge where implementation details vary by municipality, leading to information gaps. In this collaboration, the two parties will combine Sekisui Medical's specialized expertise with the maternal and childcare support network established by Himawari no Kai to provide accurate and easy-to-understand information.
Future initiatives will include the planning and creation of educational content, holding seminars and events, and promoting awareness in cooperation with healthcare professionals to ensure an environment where parents can easily access information.
Furthermore, through the free app 'Maternity Passport' operated by the organization, they will continue to provide support throughout the stages of pregnancy and childcare, strengthening the platform connecting medical and specialized professionals with families.
