NPO Hikoukigumo (Headquarters: Sodegaura City, Chiba Prefecture, Representative Director: Satoru Yamada), which conducts volunteer activities such as welfare and community building through music, will hold a "Showa Kayo Show" on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Aoba no Mori Park Arts and Culture Hall.

This event completely departs from the existing "calm singing (choir) style" and pursues the furious entertainment value that large-scale Showa-era music TV programs possessed, in a modern live space. It is a completely new music show unlike anything before. Targeting primarily individuals in their 50s, 60s, and 70s, the event offers genuine relaxation and a place for forming new communities among middle-aged and older people through a passionate performance that involves the audience, utilizing high volume and dynamic lighting effects.

Background of the Event

In recent years, Showa Kayo (Showa-era popular music) has experienced a revival boom, and events that emphasize "healing"—where people sit and quietly appreciate the songs or sing in a chorus—have become mainstream. However, during our organization's daily activities, we received many requests saying, "We want to enjoy a more enthusiastic and stimulating show, like the TV music programs back then."

To answer these voices, NPO Hikoukigumo planned this event as a challenge to the "blue ocean market," reviving the energy of those past music programs with the latest technology and diverse performances.

Program & Content

The biggest highlight of this event is the overwhelming live feeling where over 20 performers rotate on and off stage, delivering about 40 Showa Kayo masterpieces non-stop for 100 minutes. Famous songs known to everyone, such as "Dounimo Tomaranai," "Mata Au Hi Made," "Kawa no Nagare no You ni," "Mizuiro no Ame," and "Friends," will color the stage.

It's not just about standing and singing. Hikoukigumo's unique cast of members gathers to enchant the audience with danceable performances and gorgeous costumes. Breath-taking performances will unfold continuously, including rapidly changing choreography, acts featuring back dancers, and interactions that draw in the audience.

The stage, unfolding under dynamic lighting effects with loud sounds unique to a live concert (approx. 90dB) and deep bass you can feel in your body, is a perfect recreation of "those TV specials back then when the School Mates were dancing in the background." In past performances, excited feedback from attendees, such as "The up-tempo production made me feel younger again (Male in his 70s)," has proven its passionate appeal.

"Apart from our volunteer activities, we resolved to create a concert-style music show that can be purely enjoyed as entertainment. This 'Showa Kayo Show' is the result of pooling our members' strengths. Instead of quietly immersing in nostalgia, we maximize the revival of Showa-era enthusiasm with roughly 90dB of sound, sub-sonics, flashy lighting effects, dynamic dances, and banters with the audience. We hope to deliver a spectacular 100 minutes where you can physically feel the energy just like the TV programs of the time, and help bring the community together through music."
