Nishikawa Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and COO: Masahiko Takeuchi; hereinafter "nishikawa") will launch a new package plan for its "Sleep Improvement Program" for corporations and organizations as a BtoB business starting April 1, 2026 (Wednesday).

The economic loss due to sleep deprivation in Japan is said to be 2.92% of GDP, amounting to approximately 15 trillion yen annually*1, with an estimated loss of 160,000 yen per person per year. The decline in sleep quality is a critical issue that affects the overall performance of corporate organizations. Employee sleep improvement initiatives play a significant role in solving challenges related to both "offensive management," such as improving productivity and engagement, and "defensive management," such as ensuring safety and managing health risks.

nishikawa's new "Sleep Improvement Program" package plan provides an environment where employees can acquire sleep management skills themselves, and companies can comprehensively identify and improve issues in a one-stop manner. It consists of a basic "fixed menu" and a "selection menu" that can be chosen according to needs, allowing plans to be designed to match corporate goals and challenges. The "fixed menu" encourages employees to confront their sleep and promote behavioral change through the steps of "Learn," "Confirm," and "Consult." The "selection menu" can be freely selected and combined according to the issues identified through the actual situation analysis from the "fixed menu." All service information is aggregated on a common platform, enabling both employees and companies to understand their "current sleep status" and work towards improvement. A monthly fee system helps standardize costs, making budget management easier.

This package plan is a unique approach that integrates nishikawa's expertise as a bedding manufacturer with a 460-year history and the cutting-edge knowledge of its research institution, the "Japan Sleep Science Institute." For its development, nishikawa collaborated with various industries, including Itochu Corporation, Kokubu Group Corp., S'UIMIN Co., Ltd., and Tipness Co., Ltd., through the activities of the industry-academia consortium "Sleep Innovation Platform®" concerning sleep management. The program was repeatedly refined through trials. Service verification conducted for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024 targeting employees of Itochu Corporation showed results leading to sleep improvement, behavioral change, and an increased rate of clinic visits for individuals at risk of Sleep Apnea Syndrome (SAS). It was also developed in collaboration with experts such as respiratory physicians, clinical psychologists, and sleep medicine specialists.

【Service Verification Targeting Employees of SIP Participating Companies】

Itochu Corporation conducted service verification for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024 targeting its employees. By visualizing employees' sleep status and providing services tailored to individual conditions, the program aimed to solve sleep issues such as insomnia and Sleep Apnea Syndrome (SAS), and also to improve the sleep quality of employees with fewer sleep issues, leading to enhanced employee health and labor productivity. In fiscal year 2025, in addition to continuing the same program, measures such as the "Workplace Sales" selection menu and "Relaxation Tools" in women's dormitories were implemented.

- Fiscal Year 2023

nishikawa's "Sleep Improvement Program" was implemented for 736 voluntary participants. Results from sleep electroencephalogram measurement "InSomnograf" and other tools revealed that approximately half had sleep issues. Recognizing the importance of sleep improvement, support was provided for understanding sleep knowledge, sleep consultation, and medical treatment.

- Fiscal Year 2024

As a more precise approach, sleep issues of all employees were confirmed using stress checks, and 931 employees participated in the program. Medical SAS (Sleep Apnea Syndrome) tests were incorporated, and an improvement program was further implemented for 100 high-risk individuals. The post-program questionnaire (419 respondents) showed that the "Athens Insomnia Scale" improved by an average of 16% overall, and by 29% for employees with moderate or severe insomnia tendencies. Sleep knowledge comprehension increased by an average of 1.2 times, and improvements in presenteeism and Sleep Restoration Quality (RSQ) were also observed. Furthermore, in collaboration with the corporate clinic, the clinic visit rate for SAS risk individuals improved from 16% (FY2023) to 84% (FY2024).
