Nikkiso Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Nikkiso") announces the delivery of a liquid hydrogen pump skid for the "Technology Development for Efficiency Improvement and Advancement of Hydrogen Fuel Supply Systems in Regional Models of Hydrogen CGS*1" project, promoted by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Kawasaki Heavy Industries") and Kobe Steel, Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Kobe Steel") in the Port Island area of Kobe City. This pump has been adopted as a key component of the world's first next-generation hydrogen fuel supply system, which combines liquid hydrogen pump-based pressurization beyond critical pressure—a technology being demonstrated by Kawasaki Heavy Industries—with an Intermediate Fluid Vaporizer (IFV)*2. ## About the Liquid Hydrogen Pump Delivered This Time The liquid hydrogen pump delivered this time is a highly reliable model manufactured by our group's Clean Energy & Industrial Gases group (hereinafter referred to as the "CE&IG Group"), which has a track record of delivering over 450 liquid hydrogen pumps worldwide. Its key feature is its ability to efficiently pressurize hydrogen in its liquid state to high pressures, significantly reducing the power required compared to methods that compress hydrogen in its gaseous state. This contributes to overall energy savings for power generation facilities and a reduction in operating costs. For this project, Nikkiso's engineering division, which has provided pumps for the Japanese market for many years, optimized the design to comply with regulations and standards specific to the Japanese market (primarily the High-Pressure Gas Safety Act) and required specifications. By combining the technological capabilities of the Nikkiso Group, we have achieved safe, reliable, and efficient handling of liquid hydrogen in cryogenic regions. ## About "Technology Development for Efficiency Improvement and Advancement of Hydrogen Fuel Supply Systems in Regional Models of Hydrogen CGS" This project is a NEDO subsidized business, jointly promoted by Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Kobe Steel. Based on the hydrogen gas turbine power generation demonstration facility installed at the Kobe Hydrogen Energy Center in the Port Island area of Kobe City, they are working to systematize the design and operation know-how of a hydrogen fuel supply system that combines three components: a liquid hydrogen pump, an IFV, and a hydrogen gas turbine. This demonstration is an important initiative with a view to future large-scale hydrogen power generation and regional energy models.
