Nikkei Integrated Systems Launches Ransomware Countermeasure Software 'NAS Ransom Block' to Prevent File Encryption

Nikkei Integrated Systems, an IT engineering company within the Nikkei Group (Koto-ku, Tokyo, President & CEO: Hiroshi Arai), launched its ransomware countermeasure software, 'NAS Ransom Block,' on April 15th. The software's key feature is its ability to prevent ransomware from encrypting files stored on PCs and in the cloud by exploiting vulnerabilities. Even if infected with ransomware, NAS Ransom Block acts as the 'last line of defense' to protect data (files), minimizing damage and allowing for early resumption of operations. Ransomware is malware (malicious software) that encrypts files on an infected terminal and demands money (ransom) for their recovery. NAS Ransom Block was developed in collaboration with City Revers Inc. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Yoshiyasu Sato), a company specializing in security solutions. When NAS Ransom Block is installed on a PC, it detects the characteristic behavior of ransomware encrypting files and blocks the encryption. It prevents encryption not only for files on the PC but also for files stored in cloud storage such as OneDrive and on on-premises file servers. Performance evaluations using approximately 50 known ransomware samples confirmed that NAS Ransom Block blocked file encryption for all tested samples. With NAS Ransom Block deployed, operations can be resumed early by accessing cloud storage or similar services from unaffected terminals. While EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) for monitoring terminals and detecting threats is widespread as a ransomware countermeasure, recent ransomware attacks have occurred even after disabling EDR, making EDR alone insufficient. NAS Ransom Block functions as part of 'multi-layered defense,' enhancing the effectiveness of ransomware countermeasures when used in conjunction with existing EDR. NAS Ransom Block is a domestically developed ransomware countermeasure software that blocks encryption, characterized by its user-friendly UI and prompt support. Key Features of NAS Ransom Block: Constantly monitors access to protected files. Detects characteristic file encryption behavior by ransomware and blocks encryption. Detects actions that make PC operations impossible and prevents screen locking. Notifies via the cloud management console when file encryption or screen locking is blocked. Can be used in conjunction with third-party antivirus software and intrusion detection services known as 'EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response).'
