NIJIN Academy Koto-Ojima Campus (2-40-5 Oshima, Koto-ku, Tokyo) will hold a limited-time summer programming school for elementary school students called "3-Day Intensive Summer Break! Original Reaction Game Creation Course" for three days each from August 5 (Wed) to 7 (Fri), 2026, and August 21 (Fri) to 23 (Sun), 2026.
This course is a 3-day project-based program where children will create an "original reaction game" that requires them to quickly press keys in response to instructions displayed randomly on the screen.
Children will use the same basic mechanism to create unique works, choosing their own themes, characters, rules, and presentation styles for games such as the "Red Flag White Flag Game," a DDR-style rhythm game, a ninja training game, and an "animal whack-a-mole" game.
With a small class size of up to 4 students, the program is open to children new to programming as well as those with experience in Scratch or programming. On the final day, students will present their completed works and create short promotional videos for their creations, solidifying their summer learning and sharing it with the world.
◼️ Why This Event is Being Held
Summer break offers children more free time, but many parents express concerns such as "my child spends too much time playing games or watching videos" and "I want them to have an experience that contributes to their growth."
On the other hand, games are a familiar and engaging presence for children. Therefore, thinking about "how games work," "what rules I would set," and "how to make it more fun," rather than just playing games, can be a catalyst for developing programming thinking and creativity.
At NIJIN Academy Koto-Ojima Campus, we value children learning through their interests. This summer school uses "games," something familiar to children, as the subject matter, allowing them to experience planning, creation, arrangement, and presentation over three days.
From "Summer of Playing Games" to "Summer of Making Games with My Own Ideas."
We aim to foster children's ability to think, their ingenuity, and their perseverance through the experience of completing their own creations with their own hands.
◼️ Event Features
1 Small Class Size of Up to 4 Students for Personalized Support
This course will be conducted in small classes of up to 4 students each.
Instructors will support each student's creation process according to their progress and ideas.
Children new to programming will aim to complete a basic reaction game. Those with Scratch or programming experience can take on challenges such as adding time limits, life functions, and extra effects to make their games more engaging.
2 Unique Works Created Even with the Same Theme
The game to be created is a "reaction action game" where players quickly press keys in response to instructions displayed on the screen.
For example:
- A "Red Flag White Flag Game" where you press a key when "Red!" appears.
- A DDR-style rhythm game where you press keys according to arrows.
- A ninja training game where a ninja moves according to instructions like "Jump!"
- An "animal whack-a-mole" game where you quickly hit randomly appearing animals.
While the basic mechanism is the same, by changing the world, characters, rules, and presentation, each student will create a different work.
Children will create their own unique works while thinking about "what kind of game they want to make," rather than just following instructions.
3 From Planning to Completion in 3 Days
On the first day, students will decide on the theme of their game and create the mechanism for random instructions.
On the second day, they will create game-like rules such as correct responses, scores, lives, and game over conditions.
On the third day, they will refine the background, characters, score display, and complete their creations.
Finally, they will make final adjustments while friends play their games and introduce the innovative aspects of their work.
4 Completed Works, Short Videos, and Feedback Remain
This course goes beyond just creation; students will also learn to "communicate" their completed works.
On the final day, in addition to the completed works, students will receive or share a short promotional video of their work, a presentation record, individual feedback comments from the instructor, and a certificate of completion.
This provides a tangible record of what children created and how they innovated over the three days, which can be shared with their families and serve as material for summer research projects or learning records.

◼️ Comments from Campus Director
Mina Hirai, Campus Director, NIJIN Academy Koto-Ojima Campus
Summer break is a precious time for children to freely engage with their interests. In this course, they will think about "what kind of game they would like to make" and bring it to life through programming. This summer, why not challenge yourself to be "the one making games" instead of just playing them?
We hope this 3-day program will be a time for children to feel that they "could bring their ideas to life" by accumulating experiences of "I did it!" and completing their own unique creations.

NIJIN Inc.
"Illuminating the Nation Through Education" is the philosophy of this "JAPAN EDUCATION COMPANY" that solves educational issues from a systemic perspective. Feeling a national crisis due to too many children unable to express themselves in current school settings, Tatsuhiro Hoshino, a former elementary school teacher, founded the company in April 2022 to create a country where everyone can have "hope" in education. The company offers 13 systems (businesses) that address various educational problems, including truancy, teacher shortages, teacher working conditions, and the nature of schools.
