NIJIN Academy, an alternative school for school refusal operated by NIJIN Inc. This classroom will be managed by an instructor from the community-based learning塾 (cram school) 'Hyper Learning' as the head teacher. Under the philosophy of 'finding a learning style that suits you,' it will provide children not only with academic learning but also with various experiences and opportunities to connect with society.

The number of elementary and junior high school students refusing to attend school is increasing year by year, reaching a record high of 353,970 in a 2024 survey. Creating places where children can learn safely and choose diverse learning methods is a major challenge that society as a whole must address.

NIJIN Academy, established by NIJIN as an alternative school for school refusal, is attracting attention as a 'new learning option' that allows children to receive high-quality education from home using online tools.

Since its opening in September 2023, over 700 students have enrolled, and more than 150 have successfully returned to regular school. Collaboration with local governments dealing with school-refusing children is deepening year by year, expanding efforts to support children's learning together with various organizations.

Furthermore, children who regained vitality in the metaverse campus have expressed wishes to 'continue learning at NIJIN Academy instead of returning to regular school.' Currently, in addition to 'online attendance' from home, NIJIN Academy is nationwide deploying 'hybrid attendance' combining 'real classrooms' where students attend in person, meeting the diverse needs of children.

'School refusal.' Only those directly involved understand the weight of this word. The reasons for school refusal vary. If reasons differ, the response should also differ. However, the reality is that children are forced into the framework of 'normal.' This creates a vicious cycle, crushing them under the weight of this word.

This vicious cycle afflicts not only children but also parents. Families do not know what to do. They do not receive social understanding. They become increasingly isolated.

When considering how to break this situation, we thought it was necessary first to provide a place where both children and parents can safely confide their feelings.

Parents need a place to be heard and to consult. Therefore, in this classroom, we will operate by carefully listening to each family's circumstances before enrollment, making it our top priority to be close to each family.

Children who refuse school are losing learning opportunities.

What is 'learning'? It is a very deep and difficult theme, but in this classroom, we will first do various things under the theme of 'finding what you want to do.'

Once children find something that genuinely excites them, we will support each individual's learning so that they can study more deeply.

We have also introduced lessons that connect strengths to learning based on scientific analysis.

We believe in the wonderful future of children and support them.

And we always stay close to families, taking steps together toward the future.
