Nikon College has always provided the joy of learning photography and the possibilities of expression through a variety of courses taught by instructors with rich experience and achievements in their respective fields. Now, to offer an opportunity to experience further expansion in photographic expression, we are launching "Special Courses" featuring photographers with unique perspectives and experiences.
For the inaugural session, we have prepared two distinct themes. The "Twilight Photography Course" welcomes photographer Yasushi Tanikado, active both domestically and internationally, known for aurora, world scenic views, landscapes, and drone-based video expression. This course will teach approaches to capturing the dramatic light of the ever-changing twilight hours. The "House Studio Portrait Photography Course" features photographer Hideki Kono, who has worked on numerous celebrity shoots in a wide range of fields, including advertising and editorial, primarily focusing on portrait photography. This course will teach the secrets of portrait photography utilizing studio space and light.

This course focuses on the twilight time, transitioning from evening to night, and teaches the concepts and shooting methods for beautifully expressing landscape photography. Based on Mr. Tanikado's experience, the course carefully explains location, time of day, camera settings, and composition through lectures and practical shooting sessions. Through practical exercises and critiques, participants will deepen their understanding of how to capture light and aim to improve their shooting skills applicable to various scenes. We offer two types of courses: a two-day course and a one-day, three-hour intensive course.

Yasushi Tanikado
After leaving his corporate job, he moved to Canada and started photography with a Nikon FA after encountering the aurora. In his third year of shooting aurora, he held a photo exhibition at Nikon Salon Juna21. He began digital photography in the era of the Nikon D100 and has exclusively used Nikon equipment, including large format Nikkor lenses in addition to 35mm film. He became an independent professional photographer in his seventh year of photography. Currently, he is proficient in both video and still images. He holds Canadian permanent residency and qualifications in heavy machinery, marine vessels, drones, electrical work, and radio. He has a sweet tooth for both Japanese and Western sweets. His special skill is cooking.

This course, set in a house studio, offers practical learning on the use of light and shadow and bokeh in portrait photography. The course will welcome three models and conduct shoots in different indoor and outdoor lighting environments. Through lectures and practical shooting sessions, the course carefully explains how to choose light that enhances the subject and how to organize the background. By experiencing differences in expression through multiple situations and models, participants aim to improve their portrait photography skills applicable to various shooting conditions.
