Opened in 1927 (Showa 2) as a symbol of Yokohama's recovery from the Great Kanto Earthquake, Hotel New Grand is a European-style orthodox hotel. It is one of Japan's leading classic hotels, loved by many prominent figures such as General MacArthur, Charlie Chaplin, and Babe Ruth, welcoming guests with authentic hospitality cultivated through history and tradition. The main building, which has retained its original appearance since its opening, was designated a Historic Building of Yokohama City in 1992 and certified as a Modern Industrial Heritage site by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 2007.
