L'Oréal Research & Innovation Japan (Laboratory: Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Director: Amit Jayaswal; hereafter R&I Japan), the R&D division of the world's largest cosmetics company L'Oréal Group in Japan, announces this technology combining carefully selected naturally-derived ingredients with a delivery system designed to easily blend into the stratum corneum. It is applied to brightening care products that address the impression of "dullness" caused by external environmental factors like air pollution and dryness, while also focusing on skin texture and the appearance of pores.

The core of this technology is a micro-emulsion system based on proprietary nanotechnology. The oil droplets formed are ultra-fine, measuring approximately 20 nm (nanometers) in diameter, which is about 1/1000 the size of a typical emulsion. Because the particle size is sufficiently small, the formula spreads evenly on the skin and is designed to easily penetrate the stratum corneum. Due to the extremely small emulsion size, the formula has a clear appearance and provides a light, non-sticky feel during use.

Two types of Japanese-made surfactants were selected. The technology resulting from this specific combination has been patented. The two surfactants were selected for two purposes: first, the formula shows an extremely high affinity (compatibility) with the skin surface; second, it promotes the penetration of active ingredients (into the stratum corneum) by loosening the intercellular lipids (ICL) of the stratum corneum.

Additionally, this technology aims to meet high standards from a Green Science perspective. It boasts a natural origin index of over 95% (compliant with ISO16128) and utilizes carefully selected ingredients positioned as naturally-derived under ISO16128 from among numerous candidates. Furthermore, a "cold process" (low-temperature manufacturing method) was adopted for the production process. This method serves two purposes. The first is to reduce environmental impact through energy savings and the minimization of waste heat. The second is to suppress the effect of heat on plant-derived ingredients, enabling product design that fully utilizes their properties.

This groundbreaking naturally-derived micro-emulsion was developed focusing on the impression of "dullness" caused by external environmental factors such as air pollution and dryness. It is designed to facilitate the delivery of key ingredients like dandelion root extract, niacinamide, and salicylic acid to the stratum corneum. Niacinamide is incorporated to maintain healthy skin conditions, and salicylic acid smooths the keratin, thereby supporting a skin appearance full of clarity.

The formulation characteristics of this technology showed differences in penetration behavior into the stratum corneum compared to conventional penetration designs in our evaluations using Vitamin CG and Vitamin B3, suggesting the high efficacy of this technology.

This technology is being applied to the next-generation serum by **TAKAMI**.
