The 63rd Ordinary General Meeting and the Reiwa 8 Tourism Promotion Business Merit Award Ceremony Held

The Public Interest Incorporated Association, Japan National Tourism Association (Minato-ku, Tokyo, Chairman: Masanobu Komoda), held the "63rd Ordinary General Meeting" and the "Reiwa 8 Tourism Promotion Business Merit Award Ceremony" on June 9, 2026, at the Tokyo Prince Hotel. Additionally, a "Celebration of Achieving 40 Million Inbound Visitors & Rally for Achieving 60 Million Visitors" was held, bringing together approximately 500 tourism stakeholders from government, industry, and academia.

The meeting deliberated and approved all agenda items, including the approval of the Reiwa 7 fiscal year business report and financial statements, the appointment of directors and councilors, the supplementary appointment of auditors, and the revision of articles of incorporation and partial regulations.

Following the general meeting, Professor Shusuke Ikegami of the Graduate School of Management, Waseda University, who chaired the Tourism Industry Vision Formulation Study Group, reported on the "Mid-to-Long-Term Vision for Tourism as a Core Industry."

"Celebration of Achieving 40 Million Inbound Visitors & Rally for Achieving 60 Million Visitors"

After the general meeting, a rally was held, attended by approximately 500 people, including tourism stakeholders from across the country, numerous members of the Diet, government officials, and members of the diplomatic corps in Tokyo.

Satoshi Sasaki, Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, in a venue filled with enthusiasm.


At the rally, participants reviewed the journey to achieving 40 million inbound visitors and shared the direction towards realizing 60 million visitors and 15 trillion yen in travel consumption by 2030. They also confirmed the policy of developing tourism as a strategic industry supporting Japan's growth, based on the 5th Basic Plan for the Promotion of a Tourism-Oriented Country.


In his guest speech, Vice-Minister Sasaki delivered a powerful message towards achieving the 60 million visitor goal. Former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Chairman Toshihiro Nikai of the National Resilience Research Institute, among other distinguished guests, offered congratulatory remarks and words of encouragement, receiving warm applause. Numerous participants from embassies and consulates also attended, creating an opportunity to share the momentum towards realizing a tourism-oriented nation.
