Intellectual Property Management System "MASYS Series" Renewed

Nihon IR Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has renewed the product lineup of its intellectual property management system, the "MASYS Series".

This renewal reorganizes the product lineup and expands standard features to support a comprehensive management system aligned with the global needs of IP practice. Functions for managing foreign patents, foreign trademarks, and designs, previously offered as separate products, have been integrated into the main products "MASYS-PA" and "MASYS-TR". Optional features such as cost and contract management have also been added as standard functions.

Furthermore, a dedicated, cost-effective maintenance and support plan has been newly added for users managing IP by themselves. We aim to offer this as an IP management system that is easier to implement and better fits practical needs for companies with small teams or those considering a transition from Excel management.

Background of the Renewal

In recent years, companies' IP management operations have increasingly required the cross-sectional management of a wider range of information, including foreign filings, designs, trademarks, contracts, and cost management, beyond just domestic filings.

Meanwhile, in small and medium-sized enterprises or IP departments with limited staff, it is common for dedicated personnel to manage deadlines, right maintenance, and costs using tools like Excel.

In such situations, there are many needs such as, "feeling the limitations of deadline management with Excel," "wanting to manage foreign filings and trademarks collectively," and "wanting to use a system that fits our company's operational scale, rather than a large-scale system."

Based on these practical needs in IP management, we have reviewed the product lineup and features of the MASYS series.

Main Renewal Details

(1) Integration of Foreign Patent and Design Management Functions into MASYS-PA

The functions of the former foreign patent management system "MASYS-FP" and the former domestic design management system "MASYS-DE" have been integrated into the former "MASYS-PA," which was previously offered as a domestic patent management system. This allows for centralized management of domestic patents, foreign patents, domestic designs, and the progress of foreign filings all within "MASYS-PA."

Even if information related to patents, designs, and foreign filings is managed in separate ledgers or systems, it becomes easier to grasp management items and deadline information collectively, reducing the management burden on IP staff.

(2) Integration of Foreign Trademark Management Functions into MASYS-TR

The functions of the former foreign trademark management system "MASYS-FT" have been integrated into the former "MASYS-TR," which was previously offered as a domestic trademark management system. This enables integrated management of domestic and foreign trademarks and supports the maintenance and renewal management of foreign trademarks, including Madrid Protocol filings.

Compared to managing domestic and foreign trademarks separately, it becomes easier to check renewal deadlines and right statuses, allowing for smoother operations related to brand management.

(3) Addition of Cost Management, Contract Management, etc., as Standard Functions

Features previously offered as options, such as the "Cost Management Option" and "Contract Management Option," have been added as standard functions to MASYS-PA and MASYS-TR. This makes it easier to manage cost information related to filings, intermediate processing, registrations, annuities, and renewals, as well as IP-related contract information within the system.

This supports not only right management but also operational management including IP-related costs and contract information.

(4) Addition of Maintenance and Support Plan for Single IP Managers

A dedicated, more cost-effective maintenance and support plan has been added for users who manage IP by themselves. In IP management with small teams, the resources available for consulting on system operation and management methods can be limited. MASYS provides practical support to ensure such users can operate with peace of mind.
