The IR Engineer Education Research Institute will hold a public seminar where participants can thoroughly learn the prerequisite skills for "GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)" – indispensable for creating drawings with unambiguous interpretation that are valid overseas – in one day with exercises.

In 2016, the importance of geometric tolerancing was advocated by JIS, but it is still not sufficiently widespread in the field. The recommendation indicated that the unambiguous interpretation of drawings is guaranteed only when geometric tolerancing is applied, and also highlighted the risk that Japanese drawings might become difficult to use overseas. In global manufacturing, it is required to appropriately express drawings and consider tolerances, such as representing functionally important "length/diameter" with size tolerances and functionally important "position" with position deviations.

Seminar Overview

Seminar Name: Fundamentals and Practical Application of Geometric Tolerancing (with exercises, one-day intensive acquisition)

Format: Online (Zoom LIVE streaming)

Date: Wednesday, June 24, 2026, 10:00-17:00

Those who apply for this seminar can receive a special offer: access to the archived streaming from June 26 to July 10, 2026.

Fee: 49,500 JPY (tax included) / per person (group discount available for multiple participants)

Instructor: Shohei Obata, Instructor (Representative of Obata Technical Consulting Office)

Course Details

This seminar carefully explains the fundamental "rules of geometric tolerancing" and "their interpretation," differentiating them from size tolerances, which are basic for building a quality assurance system using GD&T. The aim is to help all individuals involved with drawings, such as designers, manufacturers, and quality managers, correctly understand geometric tolerancing and apply it in practice, thereby improving the accuracy of global-standard drawing creation and tolerance consideration.
