NHK Announces Recruitment for Online Seminars for Teachers Utilizing "Meritan" Web-Based Teaching Material to Foster Media Literacy

NHK has released "Meritan" (メリ探), a web-based teaching material that allows users to experience situations where media literacy is questioned through simulations, on NHK Online.

To help teachers utilize "Meritan" more deeply in inquiry-based learning and research in schools, NHK will hold multiple online seminars for teachers. In 60 minutes, we will clearly explain how to teach media literacy that can be immediately useful in tomorrow's classes.

Overview In today's world, where various information such as generative AI and fake information abounds, the importance of fostering "the ability to skillfully receive and appropriately transmit information" in inquiry-based learning and research in schools is increasing. On the other hand, many teachers express concerns, saying, "I don't know what, how much, or how to teach" media literacy.

NHK, leveraging the knowledge it has cultivated as a public media organization, has developed "Meritan," a web-based teaching material that allows users to learn media literacy along the flow of inquiry-based learning. In this seminar, we will focus on specific ways to utilize "Meritan" in classes and clearly convey practical content that will be immediately useful in tomorrow's classes in 60 minutes.

Target Audience Teachers from elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, etc., nationwide.

Format Online seminar (using Zoom). *Participants are requested to prepare their own internet environment, PC/tablet devices, etc.

Lecture Time Approximately 60 minutes.
