NHK will hold its two major technology division open events, "NHK Giiken Kokai 2026" and "NHK TECH EXPO 2026," simultaneously for the first time over four days from Thursday, May 28 to Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories (Setagaya-ku, Tokyo). This period will be branded as "NHK TECH WEEK," offering a one-stop experience of NHK's technological prowess, from cutting-edge "research results" looking 10-20 years ahead to practical "wisdom" honed in broadcasting sites nationwide.

【Purpose of Simultaneous Holding】
Previously, "NHK Giiken Kokai" was held at the Science & Technology Research Laboratories in Setagaya, and "NHK TECH EXPO (formerly "Program Technology Exhibition")" was held at the NHK Broadcasting Center in Shibuya, at different locations and times. However, by holding them in the "same venue and at the same time" this year, we aim to provide more viewers with a seamless experience of the NHK technology division's diverse initiatives and a deeper understanding.
This event is an "open technology exhibition" that can be enjoyed not only by technology professionals but also by the general public and children. NHK staff will directly and clearly explain the exhibits through demonstrations and interactive displays. On weekends, family-oriented programs such as craft workshops and character greetings are planned for both adults and children to enjoy. All events are free admission and no prior reservation required, so anyone can visit freely.
【Future Information Release】
A press release detailing exhibition items, highlights, and family-oriented programs is scheduled for late April.
NHK Giiken Kokai 2026
The Science & Technology Research Laboratories (Giiken) is Japan's only research institution specializing in broadcasting technology. It engages in a wide range of research and development, from fundamental to applied broadcasting technologies, with an eye on the future. "Giiken Kokai" is a familiar venue for widely showcasing the latest results.
This year, under the theme "Pioneering, Supporting, and Continuing Forward," we will introduce NHK's "Future Vision 2030-2040" three priority areas (Immersive Media, Universal Services, and Frontier Science), as well as research results that contribute to solving immediate challenges and support media. Experience the power of technology that pioneers media development, supports its evolution, and delivers unwavering safety and trust.

This year, under the theme "Connecting Wisdom, Expanding Technology," we will showcase the utilization of AI, IP, and cloud technologies in program production and emergency reporting.
Experience practical technologies born from the broadcasting site's desire to deliver more convenient services and innovative visual experiences to viewers through actual equipment displays and demonstrations.
